HERE IS FINE SPORT
IN NEWBERRY'
[r. Editor:
For some time I have been think-;
:
what a great place Newberry is,
:>r fishin.tr. They come from Seattle,;
Wyoming:, Waco, Texas, and all over:
le world to fish here, and they catch
i
lem?little ones, bi?c ones, and all
inds, mostly suckers. Old men,
ounu- men, and anybody can catch <
lem. and they don't need any bait, i
# !
.11 you have to do is to put a little,
ile in your vest pocket, with a little
il, rub a little on your hook, drop it;
l. and thev bite.
I
Last week a man came all the way!
rom Waco, Texas, to fish here, he
ame in a little red automobile. He
topped over and next morning got
is hook and oil, went down to Scottsj
reek, greased his hook, dropped it in,
aited a minute, something grabbed
ne hook, and you ought to have seen j
lie little man that came in the little;
ed automobile! He pulled and'
mded the biggest yet. When it hiU
he ground it fell up there near Giler's
corner. (Everybody said, "My

Then the little lian that came in
i
he little car took his fish and went to j
ne of our big banks (that hasn't any!
loney when a farmer goes there with;
ears in his eyes and asks for thirty j
ollars to pay his taxes) \ind says to;
he big bank, "What will you give me j
or this fish, $500?" "Yes, I'll take,

hrew in some little ones. He jumped.
i his little red car and tried to out-.
un the little car to Columbia. I
on't which got there first, the little;
lan or the little car, but I'm told it,
;as a tight race.
I
Then here is where the fun comes,
i: When the big man at the big1
ank and also the big man
t the corner found that the fish were i
otten, they flopped from side to side,'
urned a somersault a time or two, j
asped and died. By this time the i
ittle man in the little red automo-1
ile was in Columbia.
When the big: men caught their
reath we have another race. Mr. j
layer in a Ford tried to catch the'

Ir. Edwarris had not stopped to talk
rith the judge. i
j
They have Mr. Edwards now in'
ail. I am sorry for Mr. Edwards and!
I I can be of any service to him 11
m ready. I can't see that he has|
one anything wrong.
If I understand the case he only
old these parties some land that be)nged
to his uncle, for $500.00 per,
ere, telling them he thought there
ras oil on the land. If Mr. Edwards,'
cfore he left Wyoming, had gotten!
ome cotton seed oil and put it in a;
ole on this land; or if he had said
o his uncle: "Put some oil there-'
nd I will furnish the oil," then he j
as done no wrong. Instead of put- i
ing him in jail I would give him a'

And now, Mr. Editor, if Newberry,
ad all the money that has been sent;
way for oil stock, and all other;
worthless stock, we could put New-.
