I love to think of the good old days that are past and gone. And the older I get, the more sensitive I become in this respect. I have writ-J terivso much about old times until a great many of my friends begin to call me "Old Times." But especially what has started me oot on this subject again was that lit. tie misunderstanding The Observer tad The Herald and News got up about the Sam Bug hill near Midway Befool building. V T 1 Lrnrtwlof}<T5? 1UIVC tvnsiuciamb anv.vu^v, of.the Sam Bug hilL About 48 years *JD the first time the government ever laid its hands on me I was called wit to work the public road, beginning at the Sam Bug hill and thence to Prosperity. Remember, there was , not so much legislation in those days and not half so many "sap suckers" aa there are now. Only a few public bar highways passed through Newbercy 1 1 x? : counry ana U115 neccaaniatcu my walking a distance of about four and a half miles to begin work. But I > didn't mind the work one bit. About those days I thought that I was theliext thing to a horse, especially when old Uncle Mid Singley, who was our overseer after we got up to ProsperJ ?, never failed to call us around to Sam Barr's and Coote Rikard's barWo wftiilH "su?t. nn" to a e-al ~ Ion or two of that good old mountain | * juice which would make the boys feel I HI* jumping for joy. And I am goI ing to tell you that Uncle Mid's hands k were always very prompt in meeting ^ at the Sam Bug hill when he called ,1fes, there was an old negro* who f lived in a little log cabin at the top of that hill not far from where Mid' way school house is located now, by name of Sam Bug. I don't know J where he derived the name Bug. It was at the top of the Sam' Stag hill twenty-five years ago. Old j Mn. Lizzie Hunter, one of my best : was thrown from a buggy ^ . runaway mule. She was carried down- te her nephew's, the Rev. J. A. Sligh's, where she had started, attd only lived a few days, never regaining consciousness. Yours truly in the past, T. J. W. 1 March 1J. 1921. ft : _ *7 Engagement Announcement Johnston cor.
