HOYT 1921 is a "Fighting Year," Says Well Known Business Man. ?i Greenville News. That 1921 is a "fighting year" in which the man who goes after business is soiog to get it beyond the shadow of a doubt, was the assertion j of Chas. W. Hoyt, president of Hoyt's Service, Inc., of New York and one of the nation's keenest* observers, on his arrival in Greenville yesterday for a short visit to Alester G. Furraan. Mr. Hoyt is on the way back to New York from Atlanta, where he addressed the convention of the American Association of Advertising Agencies. j "There is no question that speedy improvement in business is coming, in fact, it is already here/' declared Mr. Hoyt. "I do not say this offhand, but because I have the proof in the from of statistics from all parts i of the country. We have only to compare conditions as they were in January a year ago. Then we knew the slump was coming. We had to face it. Now we know it is over, done with, gone. In the five main business fundamentals?transports- j tion, labor, money, liquidation and the national election that is a thing of the past?conditions are infinitely better than they were in 1920. . The principal reason that there is a dumbness in certain li^es of trade is that the purchasing public is only waiting for information that bottom prices have been reached before buying. And I might point out, advertising will give them that information." - i * * t 11 Mr. Hoyt said he hau a nanuDa^ fall of documentary evidence to back up these statements, including interviews from such men as James S. Alexander, declaring the trough of the depression was in. December and January; from Charles M. Schwab, from the president of the United States, chamber of commerce; from] Julian S. Bache, predicting that a condition of pre-war normalcy would >1-11 *_? ! 1 . r ! De esiaonsnea Apru i; num v^uauw j H. Sabin of the Guaranty Trust Co., and from a host of others. In addition, Mr. Hoyt quoted reports that he had from salesmen to the effect that, in recent trips through the West and to. the Pacificcoast, they had made more sales' than at any Lime m uie jcaia . on similar trips. This was in tin dry goods field. The shoe factories he also cited as an indication o1 progress in trade, and in conclusion declared that when he left New York the city had more buyers from retail mP7v>hnnt? than at :inv other nre spring buying season in many years. The demand by these buyers is heavy, he said, for-they are convinced the strike of the consumers against buying is effectively broken. In women's wear especially?the barometer of trade?the buying is brisk. As still another indication cf the business outlook he said that the biggest advertisers in the country, such as DuPont, Burroughs, Sonora, CocaCola, and others, have appropriated vast sums for advertising this year, , most of them showing a decided in! crease in? amount over the past sevI eral years. A Fighting Year. "What is the answer to a41 this?'' asked Mr. Hoyt. "It is simply this? fight! Th? year 1921 is going to be a fighter's year, we have got to work like the dickens for business, but the man who works and fights is going to get it. insteari 01 sitimg arounu worrying about the present business situation, men should go out after business. The trouble is that the business element has been 'marking time.' Does it occur to them that now is the time to get out and fight for business, that this very day is the day to tackle new customers? It is the same thing with advertising. Sell goods?open the way for business! That is what every red-blood ed concern must demand of its advertising. We have passed the stage where 'prestige' advertising was in i vogue. Now we must have real selling advertising. "Each line should be one of con viction?one that will pull for the advertiser. To do this we mast center ! our advertising where we wish to bring our sales; specialization in selling?straight at the people who are your target. Newspapers are the me| dia that will bring the results. Call I imnr advertising; re ill J V/UL - ^ place it with fighting, selling talks | that w41I bring results." ( i Height of Sanitation. "Do you think it healthy to keer your dogs in the house?" a social investigator asked a native of Arkansas : "Wall, I dunno," he drawled. "Bat ! I been a-keepin' my dawgs there fore fourteen years and I ain't never losl one on 'em yet." - ? CITATION OF LETTERS OF ADMINISTRATION. The State of South Carolina, County of Newberry?By W. F.
