If Owen Moore ,the Selznick star who is to appear at -the opera house Pilday in his latest screen comedy, "The Poor Simp," ever gets tired of acting he could make a good living as a "star" reporter. Although he * ? - "1 _ - V? _ ? otten nas piayea xne roie 01 a repuioer 011 the silver sheet, in real life he has never known the pleasure* and pains of -those who constitute the "fourth estate." However, it is certain that had he done so he would undoubtedly have made good in a large way, for he is assuredly possessed of that strange n-P +Vio rfx-n-Jo Vn nivrt as t.Vip "news ^ilV V/J. ^ V\tkJ ? V.W ncze." Owen can smell a good s:ory out of a mess cf vocal verbiage that would look like waste basket material to most people. During 'his stay on the west coast Moore picked up a lot of mighty good newspaper stories, and has them carefully filed away for handy reference. He made the acquaintance of an old Indian guide while there who was the source of a lot of news. "A Homespun Hero."* "A Homespun Hew)," newest of the two-reel Christie comedies at the opera house Saturday .is centered around the appearance 01 a musical comedy company -in a county town. Most of the action takes place on the stage with all of the principals and members of the chorus displaying the brevity in costumes that their roles call for. Helen Darling and Vera Steadman, Hwo of the most noted beauties of. the Christie organization, appear as the stars of this musical comedy. ' Both have had experience on the stage, and both, the producers believe, fulfill every demand of their parts, but it is going to be a hard thing for members of the audience at the opera house to pick out which one' they would select to star at the head of their musical comedy organization if they started out to be "angels" as backers of theatrical undertakings that are popularly known. "Darling Mine." As Kitty McCarthy in "Darling j Mine," a SeizmcK comeGy araaia | will be shown at the opera house j Monday, beautiful Olive Thomas has j a role that is particularly suited to her charming personality. She is 'seen as the little Irish lassie who brings to America her unlimited ca! pacity for gladness and optimism, straiightens out a . number of tangled lives and finally, through her own personal sweetness wins for herseii a real home and the happiness she is entitled to. ^ From the moment that Kitty leaves the ship, accompanied by her pet goat, to the final close-up where she has been discovered by her young lover among the branches of a lofty tree, there is not a dull moment in Le this clever picture. Miss Thomas is herself a native of the Emerald Isle and she puts into the part the spirit of the race that originated the ? smile. .
