EXCELLENT MEETING OF TRUSTEES AND TEACHERS dtatc superintendent awearmgeu delivers Instructive Address?Many Trustees and Teachcrs Present. The meeting of the trustees and teachers called for last Saturday had to be held in the school auditorium ' x of the high school as the court did not adjourn until Saturday. The attendance of the trustees was ? I not so large a* I should have liked to see, but it was fairly representative and those present seemed interested and were helped by bein^i there. I had hoped to see every school in the county represented at this meeting:, but owing to court being in session some were detained there who would have been nresent. The ' . school in the district can only grbw and prosper as the trustees take an active interest and lead in all things that, go for the. betterment of the community. In other words, if the .- - trustees do no?. take the lead there will be r;oN development of the school | spirit. ' " V.. And the same ^>ld doctrine I have preached for a long-time, eveiy-schooJ a community center and taking the j lead in all community activities. An equal opportunity for every child in the county whether in the town or the pity, whether in Ihe home of the rich or the hamlet of the poor, and a well trained well equipped and enthusiastic teacher in every school room and in charge of every school in the county. Newberry county at the top in the list of counties in South Carolina in : the matter of education and not near the top, and South Carolina at least near the top instead of at the bottom among the states. In order to a&omplish these things it will take work and lots of it, and then more work, and it will take cooptation on the part of all the people. And the right sort of community spirit and community cooperation, but why not give it?
