COTTON GROWERS j TO MAKE PROTEST ! c: _____ 1 * FEDERAL RESERVE CREDIT POLICY DISPLEASES Conference in Georgia Capital M. ~ ~ Thursday to Take I Action. | / Atlanta, Sept. 28.?Plans for a na- j tionwide protest against the farm J credit policy of the federal reserve j banks as announced in a recent statement 'by Secretary Houston were j made here today at a conference at-1 tended by J. j. crown, vjcuis.m. | commissioner of agriculture; R. A.; Maddox, president of the Georgia di-; vision of the American Cotton asso- j ? * ciation, and Harvie Jordan, secretary j of the organization. . "Secretary Houston's statement:! * have already hammered down the- j price of cotton 150 points," Com-j fmissioner Brown asserted in a state- i ment after the conference. "As lon~ | as the spinner is making $4 worth 1 of cioth out of every 40 cents worth | of cotton," he added, "it is not worth! ^ .while to talk to the cotton grower; about deflating the cotton market."! ' He asserted, that a similar situation j existed regarding the miller and the : wheat grower. ''The federal reserve act explicitly | provides credit facilities for the pro-! ducers of farm crops, the intent of j this being to enable them to holt! .? their crops for favorable markets," said Mr. Brown. It was announced that J. S. Wan namaker, president of the American j I Cotton associaticfn, will be asked to j call a national meeting on the ques-; tion in Washington. Meantime telegrams were sent to i leaders of the cotton association and, tile farmers union, all members of j , * the Georgia delegation in congress | . and all Georgia legislators asking | them to meet here Thursday to file j a protest. ??
