While we have no county offices t< be filled in the primary today ex cept magistrate for No. 10 town ship, there are some very importan offices in the state. And every on< should take time and go to the poll and cast his vote. There is the office of solicito which lasts for four years and it. really a very important county offic in that the solicitor has to do wit! our criminal courts. There is : * v - United States senator 10 De cnose for a term of six years. And a rai1 road commissioner for a term of si years and a lieutenant governor fo a term of two years. ' Every good citizen should be wil! ^ ing to make some sacrifice in order t cast his ballot in the election toda% ' The same managers are expected t hold the election and the polls \vi open as usual at the same place a in the first primary. Make it cor venient to vote. : ' COTTON HOLDING CORPORA TION. The. drive for raising the capit. stock of this corporation is still g-, ing on and is meeting with succes There have now been subscribed an 60 per cent, paid in of the $100,00 desired to raise, about $70,000. This is a very important matte } for every farmer and business ma in Newberry county to think on se t.casiy. The success of the move ment now on by the farmers mear the success of this section of th t country for many years to come, c r it means failure and possibly th hardest times ever experienced b. At- _ O J.V me ooum. The shares to tills corporation hav been placed at only $10 each so the every farmer might have a part i the movement. It is a. county mov< ment and a movement similar is b< ing launched in every county in tl cotton belt. It should take no asgi ment to convince the farmer and th business man ii: every calling th vast' importance of it. , - Mr. Oscar Long is continuing tl. Ul i? t II1IO VTtCXV axiu *? UV u?i? not yet subscribed for any stoc should see him at once. It is the purpose of the corpora tion not only to provide warehouse but also to buy distress cotton an keep it off the market; and the co poration will pay a little more tha the market price and put the cotto" in the warehouse until the pric reaches the minimum fixed by th U-\' *" \r-r Southern Gotton association of 4 cents the pound. It will be the pui pose to have a buyer in each mai ket in the county. And this organ: zation is countywide and every cour ty in the cotton belt is organizing > t 'similar association. The purpose : to get a price commensurate with th cost of production, and with th warehouses and the capital to bu the cotton and assistance of th banks there is no reason why th .. ^ farmers should'not win the fight. ) the present crop is to be markete at the prevailing price there will \ many a farmer who will not be ab) to pay out, and the prosperity of th past few years will be no more. An when the producer fails who is th real foundation cf all our weall" there will not be much hope for an 'one else. Better come together an help yourself. Miss Bessie Campbell has taken u the home demonstration work in th county. She is intelligent and ene? getic but in order that she may b pv able to do something worth while sh must have the hearty cooperation o the men and the women of th county. In order that we may be of wha help we can to her in her work Th Herald and News has offered her department in the paper, and she h? agreed to undertake' it. We ask fc her the help of the women of New berry.
