And there was also a family reunion in connection with the dinner and all the children and grandchildren and great grandchildren and some of the other relatives gathered at the . home of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hiller on last Saturday to celebrate with Mr. and Mrs. Hiller the 67th birth. day of the former, ft was meant, however, just as a little family gathering and a home coming for the children and their children. Mr. Hiller and his good wife were born in Lexington county, but have been living in Newberry now for 20 voarc and mnrp Mrs. Hiller before her marriage to Mr. Hiller was Miss Angella Derrick. They were married ^ on the first day of January, 1876, W and for 44 years have trod the path f ^ together, rearing their family and seeing all of them set up households of their own. This son met a tragic death October 28 of last year, having died from the result of the kick of a mule. The other children are: Iva, the wife of John J. Eargle; Sam C. Hiller and wife;~Eula, wife of John P. Livingston; Bertha, wife of 0. L. Cook; Alice, wife of B. C. Shealy; Edgar Hiller and wife. There are 27 grandchildren living and one dead. Ther^is one great grandchild, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Frazier. J The children of Hampton Hiller are Lucile, wife of Walt Frazier; James, Grace, Leland, Mary and Floyd. The children of Sam C. Hiller are Claudia May and John Willie. The children of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Livingston are Leona, Herman, Ethel, Lottye, Paris, -Willie Roy, Evelyn, and one dead. V The children of Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Cook are Gertie Lee, Harold, Vera an$ Fred. The children of Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Shealy are Clebron, Eugene, Frank and Edgar. It was the intention of Mr. Hiller to barbecue a pig, but that veteran barbecue maker, Mr. J. E. Shealy, was sick and unable to do the cook ing, so it was decided to make the | dinner a picnic dinner, and the long j table was spread in the piazza and all j present enjoyed a fine repast of j chicken, rabbit (one of the grandboys j has a rabbit farm and the meat was j fine), ham and all sorts of cake and j pies in abundance. Mr. Hiller has a j small farm in connection with his f hnme on the western hills of the town j and raises fine hogs and many chickens and everything good to eat. The children presented Mr. Hiller with a large rocking-chair and there were other tokens of remembrance. All wished for the couple and the family many more returns of the happy anniversary. While doing carpenter work Friday afternoon on the new residence in Nance street being built for Mr. T. M. Sanders, Mr. Mark Rankin, whose home is in the Prosperity section, had a fainting spell and fell off a scaffold 24 feet, striking the ground squarely on his head. Mr. Sanders, with Mr. H. M. Mayer, carried the injured man to the Columbia hospital the next day, when an operation was had. Mr. Rankin's backbone was broken, along with three ribs. It was rumored that he had died, but the latest news is that he is getting on as well as could be expected. Newberry County Post. The Newberry county post of the legion will meet on Thursday night at 8:30 in the legion's home in the old court house. The local post now numbers about 160 members and every day adds new members. Quite a bit of interest is being taken in the work of this post and very soon some announcements' will be made which will be cf interest to every one.
