There was a fine meeting at Po- j
maria on Tuesday, the regular cam- j

was Mr. H. H. Evans, who has,

| years and has recently retired .from
[ farming and the place is,;now operat-j
L ed by his son Mr. Ernest Shealy. This

berry county. The neighbors live in
V sipht and calling distance of one an-!
f other and they live like neighbors

Pomaria to Little Mountain. This is
a road that was put in condition by

neighbors apply the drag now and
^ again, but anyhow it is in fairly good

But the new five thousand dollar a i1
mile road, well it is getting worse ,s
every day. Even that good part from ;
Mt. Tabor church up to Mr. Singley's
i is now a bed of gravel. It i.s hard ; t
of course but it pains me to drive 11
over it. The big cars have just fan-1 i
Red all the dirt out of the road and i c
vou have only the small stones over 11
which to drive. It is hard and will j:
not get muddy but the rocks are try- (i
ing on the tires. I don't know what; i
is the remedy for such conditions but! c
there should be some and maybe the : t
expert road builders can tell us. They ; t
should be able to do so if they know : \
their business. And another thing 11 <
do not understand is why that por- i 1
tion of xhe road back of Excelsior I
school house has not been opened to! +
travel. The only thing as I under- J ?
stand it is the opening of the way j (

And I should think that the agi'ee- i
ment with the railroad to open this |
was made before the road was locat- j
ed this way and why not insist on the j
road opening it. If it is not done j j
soon the road will have to be built
all over again.

vinced that the thing for the county !
to do just now is to get such road *
builders as the outfit owned by the

I the roads and keep them there in J
i charge of competent men and get
enough to cover the county regularly ^
and we will soon have fairly good 11
dirt roads all over the county. Any i
other sort are not practicable for a (

I Two of the best assets any people
can have are good rc^.ds and good
j schools and the t*V should and must
go together. The one is indispensable
almost to the other. They are com[
ing and just as fast as the people are i
| convinced of their importance and
! are shown the proper way in which

get them the better for all of us.
