Lathan-Bridges.
The home of Mr. and Mrs. C. F.
iathan was the scene of a simple but
pretty wedding ceremony Saturday
morning, July 10, at high noon, the j

The young couple were married in
the living room which was attractive
in its simple decorations of Shasta i
daisies. In the presence of , the

refreshing iced course was served by
Misses Martha Lathan, younger sister
of the bride, Elizabeth Wright,
Blanche Davidson and Mrs. J. K.
Xaird.
The bride was attractively gowned
Sn a going away suit of midnight blue
with harmonizing accessories.. The
tailored effect was softened by a cor
sage bouquet of roses.
vThe bride and groom left on the
Southern train for Charleston, where
they will make their home.
The marriage came as quite a surprise
to the many friends of the
bride, who was on a visit to a friend
at Bonneau, near Charleston, and
' vent for the week-end to the Isle of
Palms. There she met Mr. Bridges,
whom she had not seen since her coldavs.

they decided to marry and came
nome on Friday afternoon.
Miss La than is a graduate of Winthrop
college and has been teaching
since her graduation, two years ago
iaving taught the past session in the
?ity schools. She is a young \*mar
of charming personality and rare intellectual
attainments.
Mr. Bridges is in the employ of
tihe Southern railway and has been in1
Charleston since the commencement
of the war, when he was sent there

man of sterling qualities and well
'liked by his business associates and

Paddon-Smith.
One of the recent marriages of interest
was that of Miss Juel Paddon
of East Orange, N. J., and Mr. J.
3X Mahon Smfth of this* city. The
, ceremony was performed by ;the Rev.
William H. Gibbons in St. George
-Episcopal church of J\ew Yorlc city
on Wednesday, July 7. The young
couple were accompanied there by
members of the bride's family. They
returned to Newberry on Friday
morning.' Mr. and Mrs. Smith will
leave on Monday for Laurens, where
Smith will manage the Carolina
company at that place. The
"bnclerroom is the eldest son of Dr.
and :Mrs. T. W. Smith and is well
known as a live and progressive
'Irasiness man, thoroughly posted in
the great automobile industry, and
"^ie .people of Laurens will find that
ie will add life to the city. < The
%ride is a beautiful and charming
"poung woman who has adorned the
ranks of educated trained nurses by
; iier membership in that noble profession.
She will at once make many
friends in her new home by her genial
