'AGAN TASTE FOR PLEASURE WILLING TO PAY ANY PRIC] This Is What Miss Helen P. McCoi mick Says About Type of Girl the Present Day is Developing. (By Winifred Van Duzer.) New York, June 17.?Moths an .he flame have played out anothe [>f their eternal games here. The flame is dead?puffed out b revenge. Pleasure, doubtful prize c the ^layrncr, lies among the ashes, sordid thing. But the moths 1;" nuueiing btiore the iusii o? uio bro!'^n-w:^>rc !, ,)it:able I't/.le cr?!?**v es, altogether unlike the butterrlit they appeared on Broadway. The game is over. And in the cl! card lie a few significant objects; silken negligee; a pair of little, silke slippers; an old man's false teet and wig. A Big Sister. Miss Helen P. McCormick, who assistant district attorney of King county and who, outside of her ofl cial position is a sort of big sister 1 all the srrls and women of Brookly who need a big sister, today said th< not the frame nor those who playe it, but the things in the discard ai what count. A poor little moths. a "And the other bits of discard? )- the little neglige and slippers?thos 11 are symbols of the price women pa for luxury." , ?f Knew Fifty Women, e Mrs. Marie Larsen, housekeepe for the turfman and man about tow ic admitted today that she did not knc\ ^ which of the many women who visit tho Vinnso on Seventieth streel d owned the dainty garments which pc h lice found in the boudoir there. Ac ie cording to other stories Elwell wa ;y intimately acquainted with as man; j. as fifty women. i- Back of it all, Miss McCormic !t said, is a story of improper childhoo h training, lack of reverence for law 5. complete selfishness. She contin v ued: "Many similar cases go milling j through the courts here, differen y only in that romance is less domi ^ nant, because there is less mone; r with which to disguise sordidness. "We find they almost always rui t in the same groove; little or no homi e influence round principals as chil dren and then companions preaching : lawless fluttering after excitement. "How few of them realized thai ; beneath the gilding of every butter i fly's wings lie the dusty grey of th< , moth's!" According to latest theories of the police, Elwell's slayer was the husj band, father, or brother or some wo. man wronged by the elderly flame j during his excursions among moths ; in various parts of the country. Up; * on this Miss McCormick had this tc ? say: "Th* time is pa?t when womar ? mav shift responsibility for her so-j rial moral acts; when she can la-\ 2 the blame upon some one el**'? particularly a man's, bp j cause of her sex.
