Cream shortening; add suvrar
and well-beaten egar; stir in
milk; add ?utmeg, salt, flour and
baking- powder which have been
sifted together and enough additional
flour to make dough stiff

thick; cut out. Fr, in deep fat
hot enough to brown a piece of
bread in 60 seconds. Drain on

Legion in convention here today
went on record as being opposed to
withdrawing from the national or-1

men. Delegates to the national
convention were instructed to
use every effort, to have the national
convention repudiate the activities of
the national executive committee in
regard to cash bonus.
A resolution was passed commending
the zeal of the executive
committee in .endeavoring to maintain
strict adherence to the basic i
principles underlying the inception;
and birth of the American Legion. (
The sessions of the convention'
were livelv throughout rhe day. The j
question of withdrawal from the na- j
tional organization, which was taken j
up at the morning session, provoked!
heated discussion at times. The!
bonus question, which came up dur-i
ing the afternoon session, was also
very lively. Former Governor D. C. j
Hey ward delivered an inspiring ad-|
dress at the morning session. Theie'
were about 400 delegates, represent-:
ing nearly every post in South Caro- j
lina, on the floor of the convention
hall. At 2 o'clock in the afternoon
the ex-service men gathered at the
chamber of commerce building,
where they enjoyed a luncheon ten1

and Newberry. A movement to ;
make Columbia the permanent meet
