REVISED PENSION ROLL
FOR NEWBERRY COUNTY
The pension act of the last legislature
required an entirely new enrolment
and undertook to provide a
pension ior all Confederate veterans
and wids under certain restrictions. ;
In order to get on the roll however
it was necessary under the law that
every veteran and widow should enroll
again and give the history of the
company and service. Notices were
nrintpd in all the uaDers as to the
I , A- A ,
requirements for enrolment and
everything else in connection with
the pension. The classification is i
made by the county boards subject ^
of course to revision by the State
board. The Newberry board did its
workyso well as to bring- the commen- g
dation of the state pension commis-,
sioner and yet it is possible that a ,/
few names may have been left off on \?'
account of failure of the person to."
whom a pension should have been1
paid to apply and enroll under ?
the new act. As a matter of fact,"
there are some five or six in this'
county who failed to enrol and there- {?

year though if there should be any;
funds left and these are entitled to a j
pension it may be paid yet. Probate. ..
Judge Ewart is the clerk of the board \ *
# and receives complaints and pays out p<
the funds but all applications must ].
be passed on by the county board! Jf
and all classifications made by the;
board and probate judge has no au-j
thority to alter or to make any jst
changes. \ _
The total of the appropriation that! 15
comes to Newberry this year is ^10,-p
v,02.00 and this has been received ' ~
and practically all of it paid out. In j
case of the death of the pensioner J
the money goes to the widow or to j ^
pay funeral expenses. The follow-!
ing is the list and the classification
for Newberry county the past year. b(
If there are any errors or omissions
the board will be very glad to have Jf
the names and the record so that sthe
may be added the coming year: r
