Teacher Training Class at Methodist
Church.
Whitmire, June 10.?The commencement
exercises of the Whitmire
high school were held here last
Friday evening and the following
program was successfully rendered:
Prayer by Kev. j. r. Simpson; salutation,
Miss Grade Stroud; address
by Col. E. H. Aull, subject, "The
Game of Life;'' class history. Miss
Nellie Holt; class poem, Mr. John R.
Jeter; music by Misses Juanita Wade
and Eugenia Barden; class prophecy,
Ivlr. John Shannon; address to the
graduating class, Mr. J. C. Brooks;
medal for maintaining the highest
average in mathematics in the high
school, delivered by Mr. W. II. Sherard
to Miss Mary Spray; a medal of
Isrfid DV -VIr. Cj. lit. auu ucii>ered
by Mr. J. C. Brooks to Miss
Gladys Childers for making the highest
average in the seventh grade;
Mr. E. H. Aull had offered a medal
for the best essay on this subject,

Aull to Miss Clarice Dillard; this essay
was read; music by Lucy Frances
Abrams, Sarah Hines Major, Thelma
Christie and Minnie Suber; valedictory,

are enjoying a visit to Miss Lena

Miss Farnces C. Jeter, who taught
Latin in the Lancaster high school
during the past session, is at home
for the holidays. j
Mrs. Winnie Browning spent last

hospital. While in Chester Mrs.
Browning was the guest of Mr. and
Mrs. Lyles Glenn. ;
Mrs. Jno L. Miller attended commencement
at Lander college. From
there she went to the home of her
father, Mr. Rainey at Saluda and
the next day they motored over to
Columbia college - and enjoyed the
exercises there. j
Messrs. Hassell and Frank Miller
attended commencement at Columbia
college.
Mr. Hanna of Chesterfield visited
his sister, Mrs. T. P. Young, recently.

Miss Alma Lupo and Miss Ida Belle
Cole left Friday for Bat Cave, N. C.,
where they will spend a month at
-the Southern Guardians training
camp. . !
Mr. Riser of Newberry college,'
who acted as superintendent of the
school here during the illness of Mr.
J. C. Brooks, came over for commencement.

Miss Ruby Herren of Columbia is
taking a rest at the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Herren.;
Masters Ben and Knight Sims,!
who have been spending several
weeks with Mrs. J. B. Pitts, have re-j
turned to their home in Spartanburg.!

is cohducting a teacher training class;

Methodist parsonage by Rev. J. P. i
Simpson on last Sunday afternoon at j
6 o'clock. Only a few special friends!
and relatives witnessed the cere-i
riony; but a large number of people |
met the evening vestibule and show-!
ered them with rice as they boarded j
the train for Norfolk and points;
further north. After their bridal
tour they will be at home to their j
friends in Whitmire. :
Mr. James Welsh Pitts is visiting
his uncle, Mr. Lawrence Welsh at'
Carlisle.

John Long went to Saluda and
brought back Miss Payne and Miss
Andrews, missionaries from China,
who gave a talk in the church Sunday
afternoon. They were bright,
intelligent girls and have given their
life to help carry the gospel to the
heathen.
Mrs. Mayer Havird entertained the
Ladies' Aid society Friday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Yarborough
of Saluda county visited with the
family of Vance Pearsall last week.
Mrs. Emma Long is visiting friends
in Florida.
Mrs. V. Pearsall has been quite ill
for several days.
Mr. and Mrs. Eliza Frost visited
relatives here last week.
John Berry made a business trip
to Saluda Thursday.
