operation, doing very well, although
still pale and weak from his experience
at the hospital, having bled for

Mr. W. E. Wilds, the Western
Union Telegraph operator in Newberry,
is taking a vacation. He left
on Wednesday for Charleston, before:
going to his home. During his ab-1
sence his place here is being filled}
by Mr. E. L. Hough of Wadesboro,
N. C. The office is now being operated
in its new quarters, front part
of the room occupied by Mr. E. T.
Carlson, merchant tailor, who in
about two weeks will vacate the premises
for his new place of business in f
the other side of the partitioned:
room from the tonsorial parlors of
Barber Harvey Reese, who is neatly
and con^ortably fixed for business at
his present and more commodious
stand.

table throughout and had an especial
local interest from the fact that the
vocal soloist of the company is the
daughter of a former Newberrian, the
Rev. Ernest Kohn now of Mt. Holly,
N. C., Miss Grace Kohn. ...She has a
very sweet voice well trained and her
solos were greatly enjoyed. She
also sang at the .memorial exercises
at Newberry on Wednesday, having
come down, to spend the day with her
relatives* here. The company went
; from here to "Chapin where another
concert was given.
i The promoters of the lyceum at
Silverstreet, which lyceum was gotten
mainly for the entertainment and help
; of the community, have been enabled
by this concert "to come out without
financial loss, and that is all they desired.

Somebody's bees swarmed in a tree
in front of Mr. J. B. Gregory's residence
in Harrington street on Wednesday
night. They were not disturbed.
The next morning the swarm
had disappeared from that neighborhood.
