converted into a woodland scene with s
pines, cedar and bamboo. The drap- .
eries were of gold and blue, the class ]
colors* and the class flower, the
nxarshall neil rose was used in pro- i
fusion. The guests were welcomed by <
Miss Alma Gibson and Hines Mc- '
Waters,-then ushered to a cozy nook '
where punch was served by Misses 1
Helen Bedenbaugh and Leoiia Stockman.
The receiving line were the officers !
of the ninth grade which included L. i
C. Long, Curtis Wise, Noah Pat !
Shealy, and Miss Louise Bedenbaugh. 1
A memory book was given each j
guest to complete. Miss Nannie
Lee Young's being the best was pre- ]
sented with a lovely bunch of sweet ]

Much pleasure was added to the even- ?
ing by the dances and songs of Little (
Rosalyn and Sara Wyche Quattlebaum.
The color scheme was fur- i

to the evening was the singing of 1
"Till we meet again/' by the ninth i
grade. The high school * teachers,
Misses Swittenberg, Thorn and Long 1
were honor guests. J
The May meeting of the William
Lester chapter, U. D. C., was held s
on Friday afternoon with Mrs. J. A. 1
Simpson. Several matters of business
pertaining to the chapter was i
discussed and plans for Memorial <
Bay were perfected. The South
Carolina poet "Timrod" was the sub- '
ject for the afternoon and in the
. absence of the leader, Miss Rubie 1
Thorn, Mrs. Jacob S. Wheeler presided.
Miss Blanch Kibler interestingly
told of the life of Timrod. The
Cotton Boll was read by Miss Efchal i
Saner; Ode (to the Confederate
dead), was given by Mrs. Geo. W.
Harmon; Carolina was sung; by Mrs.
J. D. Quattlebaum. The reading of

Frank Browne ended the program. A
delicious sweet course was served by :

In an election held here Wednesday,
an eight mill school tax was
voted by a large majority. .
The brotherhood of Grace Luth-|
eran church was organized Wednesday
evening with an initial membership
of 32. The officers are: President,

Dr. G. Y. Hunter; secretary, J.
C. Schumpert; treasurer, L. M. Wise;

Prosperity wore the red rose in honor

A special service on Mother's Day
vas held at Wightman chapel Methoiist
church on Sunday. The pastor,
Rev. J. D. Griffin preached a strong
jermon on "Parental responsibility."

church Thursday and Friday. Rev.

1 tablespoon melted shorten

Sift flour, baking powder
and salt together; add milk
to yolks of eggs; mix thoroughly
and add to dry ingredients;
addmeked shortening
and mix in beaten
whifes of esters. Bake in well
greased hot waffle iron un- I
til brown. Serve hot with I
