SILVERSTREET TOWN
IS GOOD TRADE CENTER
The name Siiverstreet indicates
what to expect and although little is
heard from here, it is a busy place.
It has a city council but is so quiet
and peaceful that no police force is
needed, quite a city of brotherly
iove.

Lutheran and Pentecostal Holiness,
a beautiful Lutheran parsonage, a
commodious school house and a large
bank building. \
J. A. Tallant has an extensive lumber
business, has several large trucks
which daily deliver lumber.
Vance Pearsall has a large wheelwright
and blacksmith shop, also a
grist mill.
We have a neat postoffice, installed
in the store, building of J. C. Berry,
the postmaster.
There are several stores where one
^ can find nearly everything needed. '
Mrsw John Long has recently opened
1
her store and keeps groceries ana
dry goods and expects soon to have
an up-to-date store. j
Messrs. Berry .and Sheppard,!
Nichols, Blair, Havird and Lake Hve

farmers. \ j
Mayer Havird, a liberal public.
spirited citizen," has given an acre of i
: oT-ound for a site for v a Methodist
place of worship, a building has been I
put there and is being remodeled
and will soon be ready. j
There are some very pretty resi- j
;dences here, Curtis V:*3sey is
beautifying his place, he n?*s had it
all painted, has all modern improve'
ments, including electric lights, con-1
jcrete walks! etc. j
Mr. Soake repairs autos at short
notice. John Berry has a repair shop j
where shoes can be neatly mended, j
Also carries a line of 'Sundries and j
handles second hand clothing.
. It seems as if we had everything
needed, except a drug store. " j
iJ. C. Berry has two wagons engaged
in hauling lumber, etc. He buys
V cattle and furnishes fresh meat to;
the public., I

The health of the place is goou.
We have had very few cases of
influenza. j
THE SCOURGE KILLS
MORE THAN WAR!
Under date of April 5, Mr. Julius
J. Dukes, acting chairman of the j
Central Committee for the Relief of j
Jews Suffering Through the War,!
mailed a circular -letter from New,
York to Mr. T. Vigodsky, in which:
he said : "Millions of our people are j
"Am nf hnncrer and starva-1
?V"T IU 0?
tion. Immediate help must be sent!
from America, if we want to save
their lives." Mr. Dukes encloses
"Extract from cable sent by Henry j
P. Davidson, head of Red Cross,"
> which we asked Mr. Vigodsky to let
us copy for our readers. In its
awful portrayal it speaks for itself
as follows: .
% Paris, March, 24.?No matter how
many treatkjs are signed or not
signed, world peace will not be established
until Central Europe and
the Near East are thoroughly cleansed
and disinfected. /
America is just as unsafe as
Europe from typhus and the white
plc^'je now spreading over the world
with lightning rapidity.
. Two million three hundred thousand
infected Russian refugees are
now pressing against Western
Europe's border in their mad rush
westward, in the hope of escaping
death und^r the most horible conditions.
* Conditions as bad as in Russia
prevail in Hungary, Serbia, Austria,
Montenegro, Turkey and Syria and
throughout tjie Near East. - Poland is
especially severely stricken.
Mnrp neonle are dvinsr daily now
than during the war.
Whole populations are being wiped
out. The fatal germs pass from one
'country to another, owing to the
lack of sanitary devices.
Unless quick relief is provided the
world will see a tragedy greater than
that of the last five years,
v Montenegro, for instance, with its
population of 430,000, has only four
doctors, no hospital supplies and no
medicines. The same applies to the
whole of Eastern Europe.
