Of this number seven were killed on the firing line, 15 were wounded on the battlefield and 11 died from natural causes. There are 100 children in the Lu-theran orphan home at Salem, Va'. Forty of these are from Virginia, 30 from North Carolina, seven from South Carolina, 11 from Georgia, eight from West Virginia and four ffrom Tennessee. There is great need ? of more buildings in order that the . institution may properly care for the great number of needy children who are constantly applying for admis-sion. i The women's work is also note-' worthy.
