I' I lU(t^ I .T(j; 11 tt'MVa WILL ACCEP NOMINATION SAYS HERBERT HOOVER f If Republicans Favor League?Wants League of Nations That Will Es- j tablish World Peace. i San Francisco, March 30.?Her- . bert Hoover today telegraphed the Hoover' Republican club or Califor| nia that he would accept the Repub-j Mean nomination for president "if it.: is' felt that the issues necessitate it,1 and it is demanded of me." The telegram, addressed to Warren Gregory, president of the Hoover Republican club of California, fol-; love: "I had not wished to enter, nor; could 1 nitherto see any real public ! service in entering into partisan po-! litical discussion, more especially! pending the clarification of the diver- j gent views of the different groups in ' the parties in the great new issues, i "The recent developments over! the treaty, stagnation in adjustment j of our great economic problems and j particularly the many urgent repre- j sentations that I have received as to; the situation in my own state, con- j vince me that it is my .duty to confirm ' the action that my Republican friends j there have already taken without j w -w. In Favor of League. "I understand that there is a great j wish among the Republicans of Cali- i fornia to have opportunity to express! themselves in favor of the league of j nations with proper reservations safe-; guarding American traditions and in- j terests as opposed te the extreme j view advocated against any league? at all. I differ just as strongly with ; this view as I differ with the extreme i position taken by the president on j participation in purely European af-; fairs. This issue is whether, with j reservations protecting our position,: "t~ -join thd moral forces of VV C OilVUiu jv?4? the world to reduce the dangers again growing around us, or whether we * will, by pretense of an insurality . that we do not possess, sit by in the! face, of growing armies, navies, nk- j tional antagonisms, reaction, or in re-; verse, the spread of Bolshevism through much of the world. This would be the defeat of the hopes for, which our sons were sacrificed in this war. | x "Entirely aside from this moral; idealism of the league and the danger i to our own ultimate peace, the solu- j rt-r rmr domestic Droblems, such! tlVll Vi vwc* V. M as the size of our armament, reduc-j tion in taxation and the prevention; of agricultural and industrial depres-j sion and consequent unemployment, | is dependent upon stability abroad and upon our access to the world's' markets, which today are endangeredby discrimination against us through; our inability to exercise our veto i under the treaty. I believe it is thetranscendent service which the Re-; publican party can render to the nation to settle a league efficiently j designed to give us these national j protections. ; "No one should be able to die- j tate the policies of great parties, yet every man and woman has a right to J i decide what issues and measures he; I will support. If the Republican i! party?with the independent element j| with which I am naturally affiliated? j I adopts a forward looking, liberal, ;| constructive platform on the treaty} 1 I and on our economic issues, ana ji;i the party proposes measures for' sound business administration of the j country and is neither reaction-.il or; radical* in its approach to our great; domestic questions and is backod by, men who undoubtedly assume the! consummation of these policies ana|| measures, I will give it my entire ! support. While I do not and will not j myself seek the nomination, if it is!, felt that the issues necessitate it and! it is demanded of me, I can not re-ji fuse service, /Cio-norH "Herbert Hoover." j \ \*J45?VU/ Burial of S.
