There has always been a pleasant
relationship between Laurens and
Newberry. Signs along the road
point to a strengthening of said very
pleasant relationship.
The Crotwell land of 395 14-100
acres is now in possession of the Summer
Bros. Co., deed of conveyance
having been filed in the office of the
clerk of court. The amount was
$49,392, selling at $125 per acre.
There was a colored marriage at
the probate judge's office Wednesday
morning, Judge Ewart performing the
ceremony for Willie Greely of Pomaria
and Victoria Holley of Prosperity.
The Abbeville Press and Banner
relates that a Clemson student returned
home last Saturday with an injured
shoulder received in a football
game. Well, he doesn't mind a
little thing like that; it's all in the
game, you know, and to be expected.

picture Friday. A little girl, four and
a half years old, and a little boy, two
and a half years old, appear in the
play. We all like to see children, as

Charlie Werts, colored, was placed
in jail Tuesday afternoon by Deputy.

with a forged note for $200, but was
suspicioncd by the bank authorities.
Warrant was issued and he was
caught on his way home to Saluda.

A deplorable accident occurred

ears old, was seriously burned. The

court Tuesday for the indulgence
of obscene language, and two ,

the riding of bicycles on sidewalk.
The recorder's court is about the
only business place that hasn't gQne
up in prices for its transactions.
Everything else costs more.

the writer saw some fire-like lights i

is not much of a probability, but is j
within the range of possibility, thatj^
at the very time the fire company is' e
called out on a false alarm, there may j
be a serious fire in another part of j
the city. But it is well to be careful
all around.
The work of the American legion in ?
this county is due largely to the un~-^
tiring energy of the County Organizer
Hal Kohn, who has already (Organized
posts in Whitmire, Little p
Mountain, Newberry, and Newberry
college and is now at work on charter
for Prosperity. We are glad to see \
the boys joining and most every day
we see new members with their _
legion buttons in their lapels. Noth- S>
ing like sticking together and you
can be certain that the American
legion is going to make itself felt
both in the county, state and nation.

done at Jack Gilliam's barber shop

went to the shop in a hurry and told

Death of Mr. Haile.
Mr. Gary Haile died at his home 3"
near Goldville on Tuesday night *
about 11 o'clock of pneumonia irom -"
influenza after an illness .of two and!
a half weeks and was buried"&t.Hope-1
well church Thursday afternoon at 3 j
o'clock. He was about 43 years old j
and leaves a widow and five children,;
all down with the influenza. He is
also survive dby a brother in Union,
a Bister in North Carolina and three
sister-in-laws, Mesdames J. R. Boozer,
J. T. Danielsen and Ellen Hargrove,
all of Newberry. Mr. Haile was
known in Newberry where he was
connected with the Pesi-Cola company
eight or nine years ago. : |
