LOCAL POST OFFICE ASKS COOPERATION The local post office respectfully asks the cooperation of its patrons in a few particulars noted below relative to the mailing of parcel post and other Christmas mail: The limit of weight of parcel post is 70 pounds for parrels mailed for delivery within the first, second and third zones, and 50 pounds for all other zones. First zone up to 50 miles, second zone 50 to 150 miles, third zone 150 to 300 miles, computed according to the distance by the shortest regular mail route. Distances of other zones may be obtained at the post office. i Parcels may not exceed 84 inches; * - - * in length and girth combined. j k A parcel can not be accepted for P mailing unless it bears the name and' f address of the sender preceded by the word "From." It is preferable that parcels be addressed with pen and ink. They shonjd be addressed l to street and number, post office box ft number, rural route number and box ? number, as the case may be. There may be written on the blank leaves or cover of any book a simple manuscript, dedication or innr?t in flip nature of Derson pv. JL ijj/ blVA* MVV A al correspondence. Inscriptions, such as "Merr^ Christmas," "With best wishes," "Do not open until Christmas," or words to that effect may be written on parcel post packages, or f on a card enclosed therein. Parcels weighing more than 4 ounces fnust be mailed at a post office, .. or delivered to a rural carrier duly authorized to receive such mail. " 11 "I" Ka /lonnQitpH in Smaller parccia uvy VW4WM letter boxes. ' When desired, a receipt is furnished the sender of an ordinary parcel upon payment of 1 cent. This fee does not insure the parcel. i Parcel post of any value from 1 cent to $100 may be insured against loss, rifling and damage upon pay-. ment of a fee from 3 cents to 25 cents according to the actual value of the contents of the parcel. It is necessary that the actual value be given in all cases when the parcel is i insured. Return receipts for insured m parcels may be obtained by endorsing I the parcel conspicuously jabove the I name of the addressee, "Keturn receipt desired." ?, Parcels should be securely wrapped, preferably in strong white or manilla wrapping paper, and tied with a string. Under no circumstances should a parcel be sealed with Christmas seals or in any other manner; all sealed matter is first class rate of postage. Parcels whose outside wrap n?r is of tissue or other flimsy paper XT * ? ? * will not be accepted for mailing. Umbrellas, canes, etc., 4 must be ^ reinforced by strips of w;ood or otherwise packed to withstand hand- j ling and transportation. Candies 1 should be enclosed in strong and suit- j able boxes. Glass, fragile toys, and ] others fragile articles must be. packed so as to prevent the escape of particles or pieces from the packages j if broken in transit. Cigars snoaid | be packed in a manner to prevent j damage by shock or jar. Patrons, I are requested to inform the postal em- ! ployee at the time of mailing of fragile, perishable, or other matter requiring special endorsement, the, nature of the contents of the parcel | in order that endorsement may be1 placed thereon whidh will enable it ' to. receive the proper treatment while | in transit. Postal cards, or post . cards, bearing particles of glass, 'j mica, sand, tinsel, or other similar v substances, are unmailable, except) I when enclosed in. envelopes tightly j A sealed to prevent the escape ot sucn : ft particles, or when treated in such a B manner as will prevent the objectm ? or able substances from being rub-. V bed off. r All mail matter addressed to chil-. dren should either bear the complete street and number* rural route num-j ber and box number, post office box number, or be addressed in care of their parents. This request is made because under the postal law and regtilo+mnc nn Hirp^tnrv is maintained of the names of children under 10 . years of age, therefore unless it is i L complied with delay in delivery may, result. < R. G. Parks, V Acting Postmaster. W Newberry, S. C., Dec. 17, 1919. VOUNG PEOPLE'S WORK. A r.nnfprpii(?e of the members of the executive committee of the Young People's Christian Union of the r Associated Reform Presbyterian! chw?ch, was held here Friday audi Friday night. The conference was presided over by the Rev. J. W. Carson, D. D., synodical secretary in L charge of the young people's work. The visiting members were delightfully entertained while in Newberry, Miss Marion Jones being chairman of the committee on entertainment. r Moved to Prosperity. Mr. J. A. C. Kibler after farming: Very successfully for about forty years has moved to Prosperity. We think he told us that he had made forty crops. It may be that it was fortv-five. but we would scarcely i think he is old enought to have done that* His farm is in the Bachman Chapel community and at or near the place where he was born. Some time ago he sold out his farming implements and his farm products and will rent his place in the country and reside in the town of Prosperity where he has bought a home. He is a good citizen and generous in his support of his church and all charitable institutions and enterprises. He will probably engage in the real estate business more to help young men to buy and own their homes than for the money he may be able to make out of it.
