In l a letter which will shortly go to them, I he declares that the movement i/'affects vitally every person in thej I South." j "The South," says Col. Mixson, "is| j dependent on the farmer. When adversity hits the farmer it hits the whole South. Thomas i has made a substantial increase in all J of its phases since he came back five I years ago. From a financial view its increase has been over 400 per cent, while its membership has almost doubled. Five years ago it stood at the bottom of the list of the five dis-! tricts of the Piedmont Annual con- j ference, but today it leads. J We heard the other day that there j was a gentleman in this town who had I given his wife a Christmas present, j c-fofowont- is nnt remarkable in : JL1IC41/ Oiuvvatvuv aw - _ itself. All good men should do that, j and we have no doubt that all the 1 men of Newberry who have wives j remember them at this Cchistmas j time, and if they do not they should.: But this one to which we refer was ' rather a novel present, and yet it { carried with it the utilitarian idea ( and the idea of industry. We do not; know who the man is, nor are we j vouching for the truth of the story, j but it comes to us very straight, that j ic a fart He must be blessed j with a very good wife, or at least j she has him laboring under a good and proper hullucination, and she must possess a very even temper, as most of the good wives in Newberry do, because if she is not so endowed this good husband has not been a reader of "Bringing Up Father," because they say that the present which he has selected as a Christmas gift for his wife is a rolling pin and a bread board or dough board.
