WaEWTHRQP VALUED AT OVER TWO MILLION According .to Inventory of President [ D. B. .Johnson in Report to Bud- J get Commission. J Columbia, Oct. 7.?The plant, J F r eqnipment and lands of Winthrop j college, at Rock Hill, are inventoried at $2f029,366.76, according to the j report made by Dr. D. B. Johnson, j president of the institution to the i South Carolina budget commission. ' Of this amount $1,131,500 is for col- j lege buildings, $424,645 for lands, $401,721 for equipment and $21,500 I for farm buildings. In a letter to Goverfior cooper, | ^ Dr. Johnson explains that the inven- | tory does not include the new dormi- I tory and students buildings, which j are in course of construction. He j likewise shows that, since the school's ; v foundation in 1886 to June 30, 1919, 1 the State of South Carolina has ap- J propriated only $487,301.17. I ? - \ To secure the college in 1886 Rock ; Hill contributed $60,000 and thirty! acres of land on which the institution is situated and this latter has greatly increased in value, explained the college president. Letter to Governor, v. The letter to Governor Cooper follows: # t "I sent to your office yesterday the j inventory of the buildings, equipment and land belonging to this institution, as required by the budget law. * "You will note that the total value of the plant of Winthrop college, in- j eluding buildings, equipment, and! land, is $2,029,366.76. Of this J -amount the State of South Carolina j has paid from the State treasury from the beginning of the college in ? V. 1886, to June 30, 1919, $487,301.17.1" . . i "The buildings are valued at what: it would cost to replace them. "The'land has increased in value; very much since it was acquired. The i State has never appropriated any j t * money to buy land at Winthrop colf \ lege. The city of Ro<?k Hill gave $60,000 and thirty acres of land for ? a site to secure Winthrop college. ("The new dormitory is not included in this inventory, because it was not completed within the date, June 30, fixed for the inventory. Only $5,000 of the State appropriation for the new dormitory had been used by June 30. "This inventory does not include the students' bunamg, wmcn is uuw \ . being erected. This building is to cost over $100,000. Of this amount the State has appropriated $15,000." / 7 PRESIDENT SPENDS COMFORTABLE DAY .
