The fire alarm came in at 11:25
>on Wednesday. The department re.
-sponded promptly. It was a blaze on
the roof of the home of Harry Kleck3ey
(colored) in Vincent street. The
'fire caught from the roof and was
put out before the arrival of the department
and did very little damage.
^Probably set by a spark from a
Southern engine. j
: Lieutenant Hal Kohn, who is with j
< xhe headquarters company of the
3Dtli division and who is still over j
seas, has been designated statistical I
officer inspection division P. E. S.
- This is a decided recognition of his
ability and gives him an opportunity
- to see country and study condi^-^ns
that will be of great service.
We understand that his office and1
^headquarters are very near the place
where the peace conference is being,
"held.
The welcome to the white soldiers]
' will be at the college campus July 2
-and to the colored soldiers at Helena
* July 4.
The 81st division in which are
South Carolinians is expected
arrive in this country in a few
* days, that is a good many units of
the division.
The services at the opera house on
Sunday will begin promptly at 11:30
1 o'clock.
So well pleased were those who
witnessed the play put on at Silverstreet
on last Saturday by local talent
that requests have come from
'Chappelis and Mt. Bethel-Garmany
, to have the play rendered at both
places and very likely it will be in
s the near future. Sorry we could
not attend at Silverstreet last Saturday
evening.
