Col. Spratt has just reached homo, having been sent back, according to his statement, to take command of a new regiment to take the place of tho 118th, which had been cut to pieces. The statement appearing in yester djay's papers, in part follows: ''The colonel sailed from France on November 6th,' under orders instructing him to proceed to America to tiake command of a new regiment to take the place of the 118th, which had been badly cut to pieces as the result of the terrific fighting in 'which it had been engaged. Klettner, instituting officer of the Independent Order of Red 'Men, went to Pelzer last Tuesday and instituted Romona council, Xo. 34, Degree of Pocahontas, with Miss Allen as Pocahontas and Mr. R. As the best people cf Pelzer have taken hold of this great work it is predicted that the new ^council will be most successful. Mr. Jno. R. Cannon of Newberry was yesterday named State .electrician by Governor Manning to fill the vacancy created by the death of Tench Q. Boozer, who had held the office nearly sight years. Mr. Cannon was formerly electrician at the Jefferson hotel.? The State, 23rd. Mrs. J .K. Gilder returned last week from a visit to her son and daughter in New York. Mr. C. D. D. Boland of Savannah are visiting his father, Mr. A. N. Boland, at Little Mountain.- They spent Friday and Friday night with jhis sister, Mrs. 0. F. Lathan, in the ;city. Miss Lala Tompkins of West Green. Ga., is visiting her father, Mr. S. B. Tompkins. Mrs. F. R. Hunter, who underwent an operation at the Columbia hospital ;last Friday, is doing nicely, her many friends will be glad to know.
