"Washington, Jan. 2.?In reply to in-> quiries Secretary McAdoo stated that ( ' Subscriptions are still being received for the issue of treasury certificates of) indebtedness dated January 2nd and "ma-! turing June 25th, 1918, a large amount;' of certificates of this issue having al-1 ready been subscribed for. Allotments are being made by Federal Reserve j banks as subscriptions are received.: When the books close public announce-! ment concerning this issue it was stated that payment for certificates allotted might be made on and after January 2nd and on or before January 15th, 1918. It i3, therefore, very greatly to the interests of banks that such payments be prepared for gradually by investment in certificates of indebtedness as they are offered. Moreover, other financing of the gov-; ernment must to a degree be affected by the response of the public to these offer- J iugs of certificates of indebtedness. i We again respectfully urge you to call these certificates to the attention of all clients who will have the income and excess profits taxes to pay.
