The advocates of the measure had 8 j
rotes more than were needed to give
the necessary two-thirds majority oi 1

The measure, which was adopted
by the senate at the last session, now

A meeting oi' the citizens of Nc.vberry
was held in the to rtho .se on
Tuesday night in pursuance of a
call issued by Mayor Z. F. Vv'ri.riu,
"ior the purpose of devising some
systematic plan whereby \v > can relieve
suffering among o:ir people
caused by lack of fuel and other necessities."

The meyor called the meeting together
and on motion was elected
chairman \V. W. Cromer was elected
as secretary and treasurer. After
a number of talks a motion was
adopted that a central relief committee
be appointed consisting of five
members, the mayor to be a member
of such committee, and power was
given to him to ap] olnt the other
four members; this fmtral committee
is to appoint v/aru relief committees.

close of the meeting contributions
were called for anC liberal n-sponses
were made, more than five hundred
dollars being raised on the s:>ot.
