L (By 'Associated Press.) r Washington. Oct. 31?This is the last -day of grace from many new war taxes. With the exception of increased letter rates and tobacco taxes which go into effect Friday, the special taxes on document, legal instruments and parcel post packages which go into operation December 1, all special taxes begin to apply at midnight to^ right. They include: One cent on each dime paid for amusement admissions. Three per cent on passenger fares. J Ten per cent, on payments for Pullman and similar accommodations. riFive per cent on oil pipe line transportation. One cent for each 20 cents or frac tion paid for express pacKages. Five ctnts on each telegraph, telephone or radio messages costing 15 cents or more. Various taxes on cigars, cigarettes, tobacco and products. en &$r cent, on club dues. Eight cents on each $100 of new life insurance and 1 cent on each dollar of premiums paid on fire, marine, casualty and other incurance policies. Although th? tobacco taxes, do not L became operative until Friday many f dealers have already advanced retail r.rices in anticipation of the tax levies. Other taxes of the new law, including those on hard and soft drinks, incomes and war-excess proIts have been in effect since the law v was approved October 3, but in indirect form. On December 1, the new stamp laxes, including those on parcel post packages, wiH be payable, putting the ,??tire law into complete operaion, excent for increased rates on second class mail, postponed until July 1 ** art increases in first class mail rates l?obably will be most generally felt fcy the people.
