INTERESTING LETTER
FROM COL. J>0. F. HOBBS
The Editor h?s received an appre

and co-verier. Col. Jno. F. Hobbs
from v*Hrh we take the liberty ol
quoting for the 'benefit of our mu
luai ii iciiuo, ? au y> V/ uuvn *' i uv
gliad to read it, as follows:
"The Hobbs family is doing its
'bit' here in our present crisis. I have
gone largely into the Liberty loan
purchase business, placing bonds ir
the names of each member of my
family.
"My oldest daughter, Ethel, is cap
tain of a registration district, taking
thp Stfltp militarv r.ensns here. Sh
is one of the volunteers from Hunter
college of the city of New York.
There are over 700 of these patriotic
voune ladies who volunteered. Those
girls whose examination percentage in
the tests ^very recently concluded,
reached B plus or better, were excus
ed from their class examination:: for
promotion. Ethel wasn't only ex
cised. but made captain of her dis
trict. We are proud of her. She
is a "soph" now. Hunter college
thinks a great deal of her. She was
elected treasurer of the college or
ganization, of which one of the fac
ulty is president. She was selected
by the faculty as the sole representa
tive of her group at all college func
tions.
"Our little daughter Claire (10
years old), is in the Hunter college
Model school, pointing along the
course her sister has traveled. Her
examinations are finished, and her av
erage is 97.
"I have just returned from a ram
ble over the Cat'lrlll mountains tvith
a large pa.ty of the Thirteen club.
We left here on the 16th and return
ed on the ISth. The party was some
lilillg uiiuci jlv/u, feuing uv uv/at uy

back bv boat."
Cards of Thanks.
We sincerely appreciate the kind
ness of friends and neighbors who
were so thoughtful and helpful to us
in caring for our mother, Mrs. Sarah
Duncan in her recent illness. We
also appreciate the part done by
those who laid her body to rest. We
take this method of expressing our
heartfelt thanks to them.
