We understand that Ed DeCamp
has gone to the big paper mills l!i
Canada and elsewhere and 110 doubt
when the officers found out that lie
was en route it influenced them very
much in being willing to concede to
the request of the Federal Relations
committee in agreeing to reduce the
price of print paper. Even if Ed
doesn't work much if he has been 111
strumental in securing a reduction oi
the price in print paper he deserves*
the everlasting gratitude of the small
printers throughout the country. We
hope the allies will not conscript Ea
while lie is in their dominion. And
that he may have a safe return.
Brigadier General Ernest A. Gar
lington who was retired the other
day was not appointed to We^t Point:
from Aewoerry, or &outn v><nuuuo,
as stated in the press dispatches. H*>
was appointed from Georgia by Con-!
gressman Price. "Gen. Garlington is
a native of Newberry <ind spent his'
early manhood here and Newberry
claims him and has always taken a
lively interest in his success. He was
t>4 years old the day of his retire-!
ment.

The members of the house walked
up the hill on the appropriation bill;
and then walked down. And as a re-!
suit the State has the biggest appro
priation in its history. And a levy
of St 1-2 mills.
Gov. Manning vetoes the game war
den bill and says some ugly things
about the game warden. We do not
know if they are true, but if the gov
ernor knew ill about this a long time
ago it seems to us that he should'have
had the matter investigated before
this. And not wait to send in a mes
sage on it at the close of the legis
lative session.
The Herald and News was right af
ter all. It stated that the legislature
would adopt the report of the free
-conference committee on tne appro
priation bill. And it did. We thought
once that the house /was going to
stand ty its colors, but it didn't. So
tie two or three days extra session
didn't amount to anything after all.
