We never before saw people more <
ea.ger or ?o anxious to spend a
than on the occasion of the visit of ,
"The Birth of a* Nation." Just ?r,;p
nose thev could set un courage to
flock to churches and contribute ?ri
that manner. It would be fin-> nee
capacity houses at churches. The
Opera House overflowed with ?>eo?ie
Monday night, Tuesday afternoon and
Tuesday night. You would think
judgment day was at hand if the mass
es of humanity packed the churches
to the standing room limit.
The managers of "The Birth of a
Nation" were high in their ["^ws of
Mr. Henry B. Wells and his assistant,
complimenting them -it.
mous opinion that the screen and
other fixtures at the Newberry Opera
House were the best they had com?
across in their travels. Peonle her^
will be pleased to hear this, i5r they
have long been of the oifmion them
selves that the Opera House moving
picture showing place here is hard to
equal, much less "beat.
The general public of Newberry
found out^the first of this week what,
capacity houses really meant. The
Opera House was packed and jam
med at the three exhibitions of "The
Birth of a Nation." On each occa
sion people were turned away, "as
not even standing room was left. at.
an early hour Tuesday morning all,*
reserved s^ats had been taken for
matinee and night. So great was the
rush that crowds surged in "front of
the ticket offices an hour ahead of
opening time.
