Leaving his humble cabin ana His agea mower, Liem, ueu to the fighting blood of a long line of pugnacious ancestors, betakes him self to the lumber camp of Henry Colby and acquires not only a Job but the love of Evie, Colby's daugh ter. Harry Blake, superintendent of the camp i& infatuated with the beau ty of Evie and, in jealous hatred, conceives the idea of stealing the camp's pavroll and fastening the crime upon Lem. His plan succeeds. Lem is convicted for the theft airtf sent to prison. Evie convinced of j her lover's guilt martes Blake, who,' a gambler by nature, induces his father-in-law -to speculate in stocks, with the Inevitable result of ruin and death for the old man. Blake goes to the Western town of Red Dog, tak ing Eve with him and sets up a faro game. - Meanwhile in prison, Lem, through association with Father Ro COttUtt, prusou cirapiaiu, uvwmes utrcp ly religious. On the expiration of j his term he becomes a preacher and travels the country over on a self-ap pointed mission of righteousness. In the course of his wanderings he stops in Red Dog, where he comes into direct conflict with the forces of wick edness, led by Ijis ancient enemy. Blake. The fight is bitter and marked by many personal encounters, but in the end the "Fighting Parson" tri umphs. Blak? is killed in a gambling brawl and Erie and Lem face a brigh ter future.
