Jpe ||ent(i) mid josu.:! Cmtered at the Postoffice at New* - trry, S. C., as 2nd class matter. E. H. AULL, EDITOR. Tuesday, May 16, 1916. The Greenville News endorses the suggestion that some one write a j book or history of Greenville county! and says that such a book would interest most of the people. That may be true and no dotfbt such a book would be a valuable contribution to the history of the State. But as a matter of hard experience we would not advise any one to write a history of Greenville or any other county expecting it to be anything but a labor of love and without compensation of any other kind. The people may tell j you how much they want a history of the countv and what thev will sri-va to have such a book but when the j book is printed they will decide to i wait awhile and in the meantime the author and the publisher are out of their money. We know from experience. The public does not appreciate at least in a substantial manner any such patriotic service. May. be' if you would print only a limited number of cODies and nnt half nf! them away for twenty five years then ! you might sell them at a fair price. We do not consider that our contract with our subscribers calls upon us to tell them what they want to know, or what we would like them to know. (According to the way we figure it, it is up to us to do the best we can in the way of telling them what i9 happening.?Yorkville Enquirer. y ' That is well and truly put. A news paper should first tell its subscribers what is happening and tell it to.them as near as human power can just as # happened. The date for the meeting of the Press association has been moved up a week from the date first announced and it now comes at the same time I with the Newberry commencement. Of course that does not concern the i membership of the association outside j of Newberry. But in the old days we tried to figure so as .not to conflict with these commencement times. The country editor who does all of his work and is personally interested in the commencement in his own town does not feel that he can get away.
