Blease and Senator McLaurin would
really be at Pomaria Friday. We nave
a letter from Gov. Blease stating that
he would be there and a letter from
the secretary to Senator McLaurin
saying he would be tJ-ere. We feel
sure that it is the intention of both
tfnese gentlemen to be at Pomaria
Friday and this will give a good opportunity
to the people of Newberry to
hear them. Mr. McLaurin will discuss
his warehouse proposition, which is a
very live issue at this time. Be sure
to hear him. Gov. Blease is always interesting
and the people always like
to hear him. .;
Read the annual report of the board
of trustees of the city schools. It^is
an interesting paper. We do not re,
call any statute under wfcich the city
BChool is entitled to State aid. except
the term extension act.

As to the tnree mui tax, it is distributed
equitably. Of course the city
does not get the amount that is paid
by the city and neither does the city
get one cent x>f the anoney paid by the
city for the roads of tfoe county. The
supervisor is not permitted under the
law to do any road work in any incorporated
town or city. For three

miles through the town of Little Mountain
the supervisor does no work at
all and yet the towns and cities pay
a large proportion for the maintenance
of the chain gang. In the distribution
of the tfcree mill tax every child in
the county, Whether it lives in town
or country gets the same amount. What
is wrong about that? Now under the
law every district is entitled to all1
dog tax of the dogs in that district
and it is part of the duty of the trustees
to see that all t)-e dogs of the
district are on the tax books. There
may be only 45 dogs in district No. 1,
but we are inclined to think there are
more. \

rally was held at Young's grove Tuesday,
July 27, where excellent addresses
in form of prohibition were made by
Senator Alan Johnstone, former Representative
Arthur Kibler and Mr.
Granville Wyche, who is secretary to

presided over the meeting and his
speech. was of special note. It was a
ery forcible and impressive argument
favor of prohibition and was said
