IS SHOT A>D KILLED
Henry Sharpe Meets Death at the
Hands of George Berfoot.
The State.
Lexington, Sept. 14.?Henry Sharpfc,
f a young white man, was shot and instantly
killed aboiit 5 o'clock yesterday
afternoon by George Berfoot also
-ivhifp. the* acene of the homicide beinsr !
on the plantation of Capt. Jas. E. Dun- J
bar, about 16 miles south of the i
court house. The weapon used was a
'38-calibre revolver. Five shots were
fired,, four of whicii took effect. One
shot took effect in the right arm just
below the elbow; the second entered
the right side* from the rear under the
arm; the third entered the right leg,
and a fourth tne left les just below
the knee.
Sheriff Sim J Miller was notified of
the tragedy and together with Solicitor
George Bell Timmermon and his j
deputies, left for the scene. . The body j
of young Sharpe was found lying in a j
field ahout 300 yards from the resi- j
dence of Mr. Dunhar. Berfoot was
found at his home about three-quarters
o: a mile from the scene of the
shooting, where he was arrested by
the sheriff.
Sharpe was a young man, less than j
30 years o?f age. He was held in the i
highest esteem by Capt. Dunbar, in
whose employ he was and in whose ;
home he'lived for seeral months. Ber
foot has a wife and nine or 10 chil
