This itemizer never knew until a
few days ago 4how well it does pay
to display goods in store windows. He
was in the store of a certain prominent
merchant when a stranger came
in and bought some clothing, saying
he wouldn't have thought of Vt had
he not seen what suited him displayed

Certainly it pays to display yonr good*

The Accident to Mr. Fellers.
Anderson Intelligencer. 16th.
! The catastrophe at Portman Shoals
[ last Thursday afternoon has caused
j inorfe or less general annoyance in
the city since that time, but the power
situation is being regulated as rapidly
as possible. The two young men
who were hurt are at the Anderson
county hospital. Mr. E. W.; Harper,
Jr., who was burned by the flying oil
is more comfortable now although
his burns were very serious. There has
been considerable anxiety on account
of :.he c-onciition of Mr. T. W. Fellers,
Jr., who had r.gh cuts about the
head. An x-^ay was made by Dr.
Ashmore Sunday and it was found
Viai there is a fracture an inch and
! a halt' in length. This nowever, does
j no: seem io account for the almost
jtoca: stupor mro vhicn The young man
j was thrown by the accident. It has
I been four days and yet he has not
i rallied. This gives rise to the fear
tbat there is a severe concussion ia
some other part of the head.
(William H. Taft at Pottstown, Conn.)
The President is given a house to
j live in, a very comfortable, hobelike .
I house. In all the world, I venture to
J say, there is more appropriate
j official residence for a Chief Executive,
nor ore better adapted to the
simple democratic taste of the American
people than the White House at
Washington. It is dignified, it ifl
beautiful, it is comfortable, it offers
an opportunity for proper entertainment
of the President's guests, but
as compared with the many palacee of
Europe it ie much less extensive and
much less ornate, and yet it is quite
enough to surround him with that
freedom from intrusion that the Chief
Executive ought to have.
