THAW IS (?It AM TED MOKE TIME November I Final Date for Brief on Conspiracy Indictment. Rochester, X. H., October 27.?Governor Felker today granted ihe request c'" Harry K. Thaw for a fun" ,t r contini-anco in ihe extradition proceedings. setting November 4 a.-: the 'i \u ..i 'Wil VM1.V.! s . r> an.v/1 nv; ? ? nm; - * ? v a supplementary brief bearing on t 10 conspiracy indictment returned against th ir client by the New York county grand jury. A continuance of two weeks had been requested. William Travers Jerome, who opposed the delay, will be allow-" d two days to answer the new bnef. Probably 3,000 persons gathered at the city hall to see Thaw and many crowded into the room where the hcarr ing was held. It was a Thaw crowd, I and when former Governor Stone, of Pennsylvania, who appeared for Thaw, jl declared that the sentiment of the people of New York and New Hampshire was that his' client had been sufficiently punished there was a demonstration of approval so noisy that the governor ordered the room cleared. Officers made little headway and the spectators remained to the end. Personalities appeared in the argument. Jerome declared that "Thaw's counsel from. Governor Stone down wished to keep Thaw in New Hampshire as long as possible, as long even as the Thaw coal and coke mines hold out to burn." Mr. Stcne likened Jerome to the "hound of the Baskervilles." Jerome described Thaw as a "degenerate, insane, criminal," and said that Thaw money had attempted to bribe a grand juror and two jurymen during his first trial for the murder of Stanford White. ISULZER DEMES CHARGES. Removed Governor Talks of Campaign Funds.?>Tucli Given 3Iurphy. New York, Oct. 25.?"I never asked Ryan for money; I never said, Tell your father I'm the same old Bill,'" declared William Sulzer tonight, in a speech to voters of the sixth as(sembly district, where he is campaigning for election to the legislature on the progressive ticket. Mr. Sulzer declared that Allen A. Ryan, a witness at the impeachment trial in Albany, in testifying that he had sent Sulzer $10,000 when he was a f candidate for governor, did not tell the whole story. "I have made up my mind to tell it myself," said Sulzer.. his oniy con| versation with Ryan during the camk paign was a brief one ov-:r the telejk phone after John Delaney, personal W rpnrpsontative of Charles F. Murphy, leader of Tammany Hall, .had called Ryan up from Sulzer's office, he said, f "I gav. that $10,000 to Mr. De| laney," Sulzer continued, "and he took I it up town and gave it to Mr. Murphy. | Late that afternoon I saw Mr. MurL phy at Delmonico's. During our con1 versation 1 said, 'Did Joan give you A the ten from Ryan?7 Mr. Murphy :tv replied, 'Yes, that's all right, but it is only a drop in the bucket. You will "hflvp to do better than that.'" f"So far as I know?I am pretty well advised?Mr. Murphy never accounted for that $10,000 any more than -h-e accounted for the Brady $25,000 which I refused, and which he 1 accepted from Judge Beardley " Mr. Sulzer started iiis explanation of the Ryan contribution tonight by declaring that after he was nominated for governor, Murphy was continually urging him to get campaign funds. Mr. Sulzer expressed reluctance to go tc the "special interests" for money, as he said Murphy urged. 'Murphy has charged me with misappropriating campaign money. I have denied that charge, several times, and there is not a word of truth in the accusation. "The Frawley committee proved on the trial that I had received about t $27,000 all told from various sources during the time I was a candidate for governor. Of this sum, $12,000 went B to my campaign committee, $10,000 ?the Ryan money?went to Mr. Murphy and $5,000 went to Mr. Murphy's closest personal friend. This man was to turn the money over to Mr. Murphy?but he kept it. That is how A my campaign funds went. I "That is all there is to campaign money I received while a candidate for governor last fall, and all Mr. Murphy's agents and all investigators oould not prove to the contrary. "Mr. Murphy has nothing on me. If he has, I challenge him to produce it." CATHOLICS CLAIM ELECTION HONORS I Declare They Have Carried Federal District.?May Be Invalidated. Mexico City, Oct. 27.?Out of 978 polling places in the federal district the Catholic party leaders claim a majority in 920 for their candidates, BMf T^ederico Gamboa and Gen. Rascon. Good Doctrines. Florence Times. T.he Episcopal church is urging a continued stand against the divorce evil and pleading for more religion j in the public schools. We are in the 1 greatest sympathy with both of these and hope that the influence of the ; church will be strong. Of the evils of divorce there can be but one side, the whole world is coming to recognize that evil as one that must be ! checked as soon ,as churches and rnmmnnities sret the backbone to land up against it, but there will be a howl about religion in the public schools, the very place where it is most needed.
