Won't Predict What He'll Do Next
Year Is Concentrating His Energies
on Agricultural blatters.
Washington, D. C.? July 16.?Mr.
Lever, upon his return, found many
letters evidencing great interest in
the special to the Record of July 8
relative to his entering the race for
the senate next summer.
"The Record's statement is substantially
correct in quoting me, except
in that clause in which I -fras made to

better chance to beat Blease than if

of beating any one man, but my campaign
would be upon the idea of win- j
ning the race myself, and I would not i

to win the nomination regardless of j
those in the contest. While it is true j
that I am urged every day by letter I
and otherwise to enter the race I do 1
fppi that for the coming year at least j
my services in the committee on agriculture
will be of more benefit to the
State than if I would be senator dur- ;
ing that time. Of course I am not
willing to say now what my course
will be a year hence. I cannot forecast
the developments nor my own j
sense of duty to the state at that time
?the latter consideration will control
me in my final determination. In the
meantime my thought shall be given
to the performance of the high duties
which the house has made for me!
and I shall go about this without re-I
' . gard to the fact that there is a sena-!
torial race pending in which I may j

now hold to enter a contest for seeming
promotion."
