k Since the following report of the
executive committee meeting was written,
the committee-s tabulation placed
Mr. H. U. Evans in the second race
with Dr. C. T. Wyche. Mr. Evans
finally received 19 TOte$ more than
Mr. Long, and Mr. Evans, and not Mr.
Long, will ran over with Dr. Wyche.

Meeting at noon on Thursday, the
county Democratic executive committee
was still hard at work at 4.45
Thursday afternoon tabulating the official
returns of the recent Demoerac
ic primary election in Newberry county.
At that time the official count had
changed some of the results in the
county races, and it seemed jmprob
"able there would be any further
changes. By the discovery of a a err
ror of ten votes in the report of th?
^ Walton precinct, as given in tue newspaper
returns, Mr. Jno. C. Goggans,
the encumbent, took a lead of ten over
his opponent, Mr. J. D. Wheeler, for
[ clerk of court, the result, according
to the unofficial count of the newspapers,
having been reported a tie.
Tfca Miint r?f cpvprnl vntec which ha.*?
been withheld by the managers for
various reasons as stated in the re*port
tjelow, slightly changed this majority
of ten, but Mr. Go^gans kepi
well up in his narrow lead of ten,
and unless some further action should
be taken with reference to ary box
by the committee which would change
Mr. Goggans' lead, he is re-elected
clerk of court by a majority of tea
> votes.
The official tabulation and the count
^ of challenged votes had at 4.30 o'clock
' placed Mr. H. 0. Long in the second
race for the house with Dr. C. T.
Wyche. On the face of the unoffi >
. ? ..
ciai returns, wmivut ui uuurse account
of the challenged votes, the
L newspaper figures had placed Mr. H.
f H. Evans in a second race with Dr.
#
Wyche. For a while on the official
^ount Mr. Long and Mr. Evans had a
tie vote for the place of running over
with Dr. Wyche, but the count of th?last
challenged rote placed Mr. Long
in this race instead of Mr. Evans.
Messrs. Kibler and Mower are rem
elected to the house, as heretofore re
ported.
On motion of Mr. R. T. C. Hunter,
the executive committee threw Mr. W.
L *. Pugh out of the race for county

In one of the greatest political battles
ever recorded in a Democratic
primary in South Carolina, Coleman
Livingston Blease has been nominated
for re-election as governor of
South Carolina, his majority over
both Jones and Duncan, according to
the tabulation of the Columbia State
of Thursday, being 2,296.

Who Has Been
Over 133,000 votes were cast in the

The count was slow, and for a time ,

The Herald and News was kept busy
answering inquiries. Many contradictory
reports and rumors were received,
but the fact seemed to remain
that Blease was maintaining his lead,
and about 8.30 o'clock on Wednesday
night The Herald and News received
a bulletin from Charleston giving the
result in the State at large, which at

Mr. Dominick received returns Tuesday

Columbia and Charleston and from
the various counties throughout the

victory for the governor since the beginning
of the campaign, and at no
time during the reports did he lose
confidence in the result. He was, of
course, very much delighted when the
message from the News and Courier
was received, and a little later when
he received a report that the Columbia
State's figures showed Blease's
election by about 2,000.
The figures published by the Columbia
State of Thursday morning showed
the following vote:
