Watch wore.
To secure subscriptions to the en*tire
amount of the capital stock of the
Newberry County hospital in one day.
That is the plan which has been
agreed upon.
F - It is a plan which promises success.
It is a plan which the promoters
have determined must succeed.
It is in the interest of a movement
which appeals to every man, woman
* ind child in Newberry.
The shares are ten dollars each,
which puts it within the power of
practically every one to take some
stock.
Thursday, May 30, is the day select

cure fifteen thousand dollars in subl
scriptions to the capital stock of the
hospital.
It is desired to secure this amount
in the city. When this is done on
L Thursday, then the county will be askk
ed for subscriptions, it being desired
I to secure as much over the $15,000 as
possible, that being the minimum.
Committees have been appointed to
canvass each ward, and. they are in
charge of ward captains. Each member
of the committees will be assigned
to solicit certain people in his ward.
"The start will be made from the chamber
of commerce rooms at 9 o'clock on
'Thursday morning. The committees
will report at 1 o'clock to compare
notes, and for dinner, and if the
amount has not been secured by that
time the canvass will be continued until
6 o'clock in the afternoon, when the
committees will make final report at
the chamber of commerce rooms.
The plan was decided upon at a
meeting of the business men of Newberry
held in the chamber of commerce
rooms on Thursday afternoon
at 6 o'clock. It was one of the best
meetings of the kind ever seen in
.Newberry. President Jno. M. Kinard,
of the chamber of commerce, presided,
and Dr. W. E. Pelham, Jr., acted as
* secretary. There was little fireworks
or oratory, but there was an evident
determination to build a hospital.
History of Movement.
The physicians of Newberry have
been hammering upon the hospital
proposition for some time, and were
meeting with some encouragement.
The chamber of commerce had been
hammering upon it intermittently for
some time. Not long ago the chamber
of commerce and the physicians got
together on a definite plan of action,
and then things began to materialize.
A committee was appointed from the
chamber of commerce, and a committee
was appointed from the physicians,
and these committees organized as a
\ central committee, with the president
\ of the chamber of commerce became
mf* the corporators of the hospital asso&^~ciation,
with a proposed capital stock
^ of $15,000. These corporators, made
up as stated, are as follows: John M.
Kinard, I. H. Hunt, Geo. B. Cromer,
Jno. B. Mayes, C. T. Summer, S. M. j
Duncan, Dr. W. E. Pelham, Jr., Dr.
W. G. Houseal, Dr. John B. Setzler,

Hucli Expected of Ladies. b
The meeting 011 Thursday afternoon
authorized President .John M. Kmard
to appoint the necessary committees r,
on securing vehicles, on badges, etc.,
under the plan. In addition, he has
appointed a boosters' committee,
which is expected to be active during r
the entire week until the campaign s
has been brought to a successful close, h
This committee will call a meeting of o
the ladies of the city at the chamber a
of commerce rooms on Tuesday after- n
noon to enlist their aid and co-opera- p
tion in the movement. It is expected r<
that the ladies will assist in the din- a
ner for the workers, and help general- a
ly to carry the movement forward to
, success. A great deal of depend- <
;nce is being placed in the ladies of
dewberry for the success of the moveLien
t.
The boosters' committee is composed
of W. H. Hunt, B. C. Matthews, W.
<\ Ewart and Jno. K. Aull.
The committee to enlist the aid of
lutomobile owners and owners of oth>r
vehicles is composed of W. H. Lom- j
nack, Henry Lee Dean and R. McC.
iolmes.
The committee on badges is comjosed
of J. W. Chapman, R. M. Caldvell,
James A. Mimaugh and R. H.
Anderson.
Mr. John B. Mayes will place a
streamer across Main street, helping
,o boost the movement, and it is expected
to secure music to enliven the
spirits of the workers.
Success the 3Iotto.
Success, and success in a day, is the
notto of those who have taken hold,
md it is expected to have the work on
;he hospital begun at an early date,
md to have the hospital completed and
n operation in the near future.
So,
All together for Newberry county'fe
lospital.
Other twons of the same class as
dewberry, nearby, have successful
lospitals.
There is no reason why Newberry
should be behind in a matter of this
rind?a matter close to the hearts of
i people.
Newberry is surrounded by towns no
nore progressive in otner respecis
:hat have built and are maintaining
lospitals.
Newberry can build and maintain a
lospital, and Newberry is going to do
it.
The Newberry county hospital
seems to be assured.
