E. H. AULL, EDITOR. .Entered at the Postoffice at New berry, S. C., as 2nd class matter. Tuesday, November 29, 1910. NOW IS THE TIME. It caused considerable labor, and of course Uabor represents money, to print the special edition of The Her ald and News on Saturday. The repre sentatives did not return to Newberry until about 12 o'clock Friday night and it then took them sometime to get the machine hot, but the paper was put to press about 4.30 o'clock Saturday morning, and was delivered to our town subscribers about daylight, and mailed to each subscriber out of town. The postal laws and regulations are very peculiar things. The officials at *#e Newberry postoffice heaId that this being a special edition and not being Issued op the s%mp 4gy of our regular piblicatiou, It could not be denominat 'ed an extra and could not go through the mail at the second-class rate, hough It contained no advertisement Ior whdlih we expect any pay and was Issued purely and simply to give our subscribers additional news, which could not be carried In the regular edition on Friday, and which we knew our subscribers wtre anxious to have. We do not question the correctness of the ruling of the officials at the New berry postoffice, but we do think that the postal laws need some changes so ts not to work hardships upon legiti mate newspaper publishers. Under the suling we had to put stamps on the papers and the postage was just about twenty times the regular postage on that size paper if we had been ablb to publish it the same date of our regular publication and cafled it an *xtra. At the same time we feel that as live newspaper peopel, it was our 'duty to furnish this news to our s.ub scribers, and we did It cheerfully, and are glad to know thta our friends ap preciate It. We have had many commendations from our subscribers on the enterprise and we assure them that It will be our purpose ao long as we are permitted to remain in the business to publish an up-to-date and live newspaper. A gentleman from Little Mountain said that If we had announced on Fri day night that this special edition would be mailed on th eneit morn ing, he would no't have believed it. The moral. of this story Is if you want to keep up with the procession and want to get the news, now is the time to subscribe for The Herald and News. * The. Herald and News is first of all a newspaper. Now is a good time to subscribe. The same price to every body. Congress meets next week. The Democrats do not get in control, how ever, until next March. Gov. Ansel has appointed a most ex cejent gentleman to the position on the railroad commission. Hon. Jno. G. Richards is a man of exalted charac ter. Attorney General Lyon will try the merger case and postpone the Evans case. The merger case was started away back when G. D. Beilinger was attorney general and maybe before that. The criminal court in Newberry lasts for two weeks or may last that long if there is any business to be disposed of. It seems that all of the proposed constitutional amendments were voted by the people, but by a very small vote. And yet all State and congressional officers were elected by e. very small vote.
