A Bomestic Drama by Thomas Dixon
That Goes to the Core of a Big
Question.
Recently the European playwrights,
and likewise the American ones. have
discovered that the biggest dramatic
subjects are in the home and within
the confines of the family circle. M1r.
Thomas Dixon acted on this idea
when he chose the subject of his new
play. "The Sins of the Father."' That
subject is the intermixture of races.

all compared with what goes on in
the home. For the family is the real
bulwark of Anglo-Saxon purity, the
stroghold of Aryan civilization
against the encroachments of inferior
races. Mr. Dixon has placed the
scene of his story in such a home and
has shown the destructive influences
at work. Although in the narrower
sense "The Sins of the Father" is a
domestic drama, yet its signficance
s profound and nation-wide. It goes
to the very core of the racial ques
Lion. It proves that what has been
reaped must be sown, that the reck
less folly of one age is the dire catas
:i ophe of the next. In presenting the
lay to Southern audiences, the auth
r describes it as "a clarion call to
:he South to be true to her best tra
itions and save American civiliza
ion." This most extraordinary of
r. Dixon's dramas. "'The Sins of
he Father." with its laughter and its
ears, its rippling comedy and its tre
'endous grasp of the great emno
ions, will ba given by a company of
iaster players under Manager Geo.I
. Brennan's direction at the opera
ouse Friday. October 28.

To Identify Cigars.
The school committee was in exe
cutive session, says the Boston Rec
ord. There were many problems for
sober consideration as the solons of
the schools gathered in tho.ughtful
consideration, says an official con
nected with headquarters on Mason
street Schoolhouse Custodian Mul
vey, who does not use tobacco in any
form, entered with a handful of ci
gars and distributed them as gifts to
fcur of the five members present.
"Thank you," was the response
from each as a neat bundle of the
weed was passed to him. Soon match
es were applied and smoke and a
mysteriously suspicious odor floatted
in the air.
A minute or two elpased. The chair
man had removed his cigar from his
mouth and was looking at it long and
thoughtfully.
Joseph Lee who does not smoke, sat
silently, gazing into space, wondering
how men can.
Dr. Scannell was puffing and frown
ing furiously.
George Brock was the fis to break:
the silence, holding his cigar at a se-,
ure distance from his nostrils: "I
wonder what kind of cigar this is?"1
he asked.

It was J. P. Magenis, who responded
as he quizzically surveyed the roll of
tobacco between his fingers. "That,'
said he, "is a Manila cigar."
"How can you tell?" asked the
doubtful Brock.
"Readily," replied Magenis. "I rec
ognize it by the taste of the rope."
