Spartanburg and Laurenc which were to have been visited o: the 4th and 5th, will be included ii the itinerary during August. On the' campaign throughout th State. the Record has been offerel and has accepted the use of -two au tomobiles by the Gregory-Conde companY of Columbia. One is a Oakland "40" touring car. 'Model ! a four-cylinder, 40-horsepower ma chine, and the other is the old relia ble Brush runabout, the same littl car that acted as pathfinder in th Record's tour of the State last sun mer. The Brush was then unknow in South Carolina and the trans-Stat trip proved its efficiency. The Oakland is now a new car i South Carolina, for which the Greg ory-Conder company has recently si cured the State agency for Sout Carolina. The Oakland "40" has wo many contests and has a high stan ing in the automobile world. It j designed by Alanson P. Brush, tb designer of the Brush. BROUGHT 50 CENTS A POUND, First Bale in New York Brought Bi Price at Auction. New York, June 28.-The first bal of the cotton crop of 1910-1911 wa sold at auction here and brought 5 cents per pound, the proceeds bein for .the usual charity. This bale wa picked at Hidalgo county, Texa weighed about 416 pounds and wa classed as ,good middling cotton. was first sold at Houston, Texas, o . tune 25 for $375 and was shippe from there to this city. The cotton purchasea today will b shipped to Liverpool, where it wi] again be auctioned. S. D. )I'ENERY DEAD. Died Suddenly at His Hlome in Nc Orleans-Sketch of His Career. New Orleans, June 28.-Unite States Senator Samuel D. McEner: died suddenly at his home here thi morning. He was apparently as wel as usual last night, but expired so0 after arising this morning. He wa 73 years old, and had represente Louisiana as the United States sen ator since 1897. He served in the Confederate arm as lieutenant and after the war be came a lawyer. He was elected lieu -tenant governor in 1879 and o'- th .adeath of Governor Wiltz in 1881 suc ..weeded him in the executive offic< *He was again elected governor i: 1884 and defeated in 1888. His suc - cessor, Governor Nicholls, appointe him to be associate justice of th rsupreme court in 1896. He wa ~elected United States senator in 189 and he has served continuously eve since. He was a man of strong forc of .character, and is one of the mos influential members of the senate. POSTAL SATINGS BANKS.
