THE HERALD AND NEWS TO
DAY.
In its Spring Trade Edition The
Herald and News today presents to
its readers thirty-two pages, which
is the largest single edition of any
newspaper ever issued in Newberry.
We desire briefly to call attention
to some of the special features of
this edition.
The first section is devoted to Lit
tle Mountain, one of the thriving
towns of Newberry county, and one
of the most progressive of the small
er towns along the line of the Colum
bia, Newberry and Laurens railway.
A history of the growth and develop
ment of its enterprises and sketches
of some of the men who have aided
in its upbuilding axe given, accom
panied by a number of attractive
cuts. In this section the merchants
of Little Mountain, in advertisements
which will well repay a careful read
ing by the buying public of Little
Mountain and the surrounding coun
try, tell of the spring values which
they are offering.
The second section contains a va,
riety of interesting and valuable
eading matter. "The Old Settler
Forms the Acquaintance of the New"
is an amusing original story. "lit
4le Dassie, or the Burning Pine
Knot's Fitful Glare" is an intensely
interesting and welliwritten story by
the late Dr. 0. B. Mayer, Sr., and
th!ere is an excellent address in this
section on Tuberculosis, recently de
livered in Edgefield by Dr. 0. B.
Mayer, a son of the lamented author
of 'Li'ttle Dassie." 'There are oth
er attractive features in this section,
ineluding the latest fashion notes.
The third section contains Easter
articles by the pastors of the county,
teling, of the meaning of the day,
and of the special services which will
be held in their churches on Sunday.
This section also contains the first
installment of a story by the late Dr.
0. B. Mayer, Sr., entitled "The Eas
-ter Eggs.'' This story will be con
tinued in future issues of The Herald
and News. It was published in The
Herald and News some years ago, but
* it will well bear repetition.

The fourth section is the regular
news section of the paper, but it too,
contains attractive special features,
among them a historical story by Col.
D. A. Dickert on "St. Leger Gren
fel, "a daring but erratic Confeder
ate.soldier. In this section also there
are some Easter articles which came
in too late to appear in the Easter
picture in the third section.
The paper carries a liberal adver
tising patronage from the merchants
of Newberry and of the county gen
erally. The advertisements are at
tractively written and tell in concise
form what the merchants have secur
ed for their spring trade.
These are only a few of the fea
tures which The Herald and News
presents to its readers today in its
Spring Trade Edition.
We ask the careful attention of
our readers to ev-ery page in this is

"DANCE WITH DEATH."
An intensely interesting story by
Col. D. A. Dickert, telling of his and
Sam Dixon's "Dance With Death,"
when, as soldiers of the Confederacy,
they passed through the Federal
lines, will soon begin in The Herald
and News, ranning through several
issues.
Attorney General Lyon and the
lawyers associated with him have won
a decisive victory in the dispensary
litigation. The highest court of ap
peals has decided in favor of the
State. Let us :hope now that the dis
pensary commission will proceed at
once to wind up the affairs of the
State dispensary and be done with
the whole disagreeable business. And
if Mr. Attorney Geenral Lyon is go
ing to prosecute any grafters let him
get after them.
The city of Abbeville has just held
an election on issuing bonds for the
enlargement of her school facilities
and the bonds were voted with only
two ogainst the issue.
In fixing the credit for the State's
victory in the dispensary cases, it is
revident to those who are familiar with
the progress of this litigation that
the preparation and presentation of
the ease to the federal supreme court
by Mr. B. L. Abney, of Columla, of
counsel for the commission, was
largely responsible for the courts de
eision. Without detracting from the
work of Attorn'ey General Lyon and

his other associates, it must be con
ceded tit Mr. Abney's services in
this litigation have been of the great
est value to the State.-Columbia
Record.
We have been tinlng about t
same thing but were afraid to express
it-not exactly that, but there are so
many people who misconstrue even
the truth-and yet we wanted to pay
compliment where deserver and we
are glad you have opened the way.
The editor has before him a tabu
lated statement of the causes of death
of 3,233 policy holders in one of the
big insurance companies. It is inter
esting. Consumption carried off 682
-pretty nearly one-fifth of the to
ta, number of deaths. Thi- is a faet
which should cause our people to
pause.-Roek Hill Record.
This is .a fact which we should reck
on with, especially when it is remem
bered the rigid medical examination
to which all applicants for life insur
ance are put. The per centage of
death from consumption to population
must be mu#h greater. The anti-tu
berculosis leagues should bre encour
aged in their efforts to suppress the
disease.
Anderson must be behind in school
facilities. We see from the Daily
Mail that that city of 15,000 popula
tion has issued only $35,000 for school
buildings, while Newberry has issued
$15,000 and has just voted $40,000
more. Anderson's school trustees are
asking for $19,000 more for another
building-which would still kave
Newberry one thousand dollars ahead
-Newberry Observer. We've got
more school houses than you have,
and bigger ones.' We built some of
them with real money; we didn't have
to issue bonds. And we are going to
build some more school houses pres
ently, just as soon as we get good
and ready.-Anderson Mail.
And Newberry is not going to build
any mor.e school buildings than she
needs and that she ought to have hid
several years ago. Investment for
schools is an investment that -pays.
We do not propose to waste any
money but we do want the best and
most up-to-date building.
The new town of Bishopville in the
new county of Lee erected a $16,000
school building just about four years
ago and now they are going ahead to
erect another one at a much greater

the right treatment is employed.
Catarrh is caused by germs in the
blood which circuilate thlroughout the
entire system. External remedies
give but tempuary ease. Although
the effects are often seen in the form
of pimples, rash, eczema or dry scaly
skin, the trouble is internal, and can
never be cured by external remedies.
The only way to cure Catarrh is by
employing a medicine which is ab
sorbed and carried by the blood to
all parts of the system, so that the
mucous' membrane or internal lining
of the body is thoroughly medicated,
soothed, disinfected of germ matter,
and thc .,oreness healed.
We have a remedy prepared from
the prescription of a physician who
for thirty years studied and made
Catarrh a specialty and whose record
of success was a cure in every case
where 'his treatment was followed as
prescribed. That remedy is Rexall
Mucu-Tone. We are so positive that.
it will cure Catarrh in all its various
forms, whether acute or chronic, that
we promise to return every penny
paid us for the medicine in every
case where it fails to cure or for any
reason does not satisfy the user.
We want you to try Rexall Mucu
Tone on our recommendation and
kuarantee. We are right here. where
you live, and you do not contract
any obligation or risk when you try
Rexall Mucu-Tone on our guarantee.
We have Rexall Mucu-Tone in two
sizes. The prices are 50c. and $1.
Very often the 50c. size effects a cure.
Of course, in chronic cases a longer
treatment is necessary. The average
in such instances is three $1.00 bot
