* SOCIAL NEWS. * * * * * * * * * * * * * The Drayton Rutherford Chapter of the U. D. C. met with Mrs. Wal ter H. Hunt on Tuesday and there was a full attemdance and a very interest ing meetin was held, and after th, regular program for the afternoon was finished Mrs. James McIntosh was asked to give some account of he recent meeting held in Atlanta, which she did and which was very ch -enjoyed. Mrs. J. A. Burton, . R. D. Wright. and Mrs. S. B. ull then gave a report of their visit Abbeville at the meeting of the ,te chapter of the U. D. C. They re all enthusiastic over that meet , and reported a most delightful time. After the business was dispos ed of a social half. hour was spent pnd dainty refreshments were served. The Bachelor Maids held their reg ular meeting in the Chamber of Com merce last Tuesday afternoon, and along with other business two com mittees were appointed to see after the poor and needy that they could help make the holidays brighter for perhaps. A committee composed of Misses Jeanne Pelham and Fannie May Carwile was appointed to look after the inmates at the county home, and another committee on which is Misscs Lalla Martin and Blanceb Davidson was appointed to see if any others in our commuity ce;Ad be helped and cheered by the mem bers of this society during the holi days. The tlfree bazaars recently held were very suecessful. The ladies of the A. R. P. church, whose bazaar was very ereditable, realizd a net profit of very near $100.00. The Baptist Bazaar was also very satisfactory, the net proceeds, being in the neighbor hood .of $120.00. This was also a ovely. affair and the ladies who con ducted it displayed much good taste in their display. The Methodist bazaar was also a success the gross proceeds amounting about $200. The Epworth League of Central Methodist church is arranging for a reception to be hel4in the church pat lors on the the ~evenmg of the 18th, next Friday. This will be given for all members anid especially for the Meth'odist boys' who are in the city sehool at Newberry college. They are especially invited to be present. A musical and literary program will be arranged for the evening, and Prof N. Gist Gee will give a short -talk.
