FOUR E. H. AULL, EDITOR. Entered at the Postoffice at New berry, S. C., as 2nd class matter. Tuesday, October 20. 1908. u wing to a rush of advertisements and the sickness of our printers yes terday The Herald and News failed to make the mail last night. We will try to avoid this in the future, but sickness will come and the merchants mast tell the people of the values they have to offer and The Herald and News tries to be accommodating and to serve its customers and its sub seribers. On a recent visit to Abbevile we had the pleasure of meeting the two veteran editors of that city-Gen. R. R. Hemphill, of the Medium and Mr. Hugh Wilson, of the Press and Ban ner. These two gentlemen were edit ing the same papers when the editor of The Herald and News went to Ab beville to teach school in the fall of 1880. just twenty-eight years ago. They are still young and . vigorous and active. Gen. Hemphill is recovering from a recent spell of sickness but is re gaining his strength very rapidly and is looking well and is feeling well. In fact he has changed very little in ap pearance since we first met him. Mr. Hugh Wilson grows younger as the years come on and we can see no dif ference in his personal appearance or in his activity. May both these veterans live many years yet and continue in the active service of their country. Both have promised to visit Newberry during A. R. P. Synod. We admire the Greenwood spirit and commend the enterprise and pluck of her business men. When the committee to visit this thorough going city to raise money to assist in the survey of the proposed trolley to Edgefield, the people turned out and a committee was appointed and the necessary funds pledged. Mr. Kenneth Baker, a former Newber rian is mayor. Abbeville has a beautiful opera house and a handsome court house, both but recently finished.
