KNOCKING THE EDITOR.
If you don't just like everything
you see in your home paper, g
around the streets and howl. Th<
editor is never supposed to make a
mistake, and of course cannot do so
Other people can, but the editor is
ubiquitous, .omniscient, mnipresent
"omniverous." If you can't see 2
good point, don't fail to see a bat
one. If a thousand pleasant thing
are said of people, hunt for some
thing unpleasant. If you don't fin<
it howl some more; if you do, how
anyway. Never mind your own busi
ness; watch for something to finc
fault with in some other man':
business. This will make you great
-Elberton Star.
Under this standard there are ver:
few in this community who have at
tained greatness. In this communit:
everybody attends to his owi
business and never has time tc
know what other people are doing
We have no cne who is idle, ac
therefore there is no mischief made
Everybody says pleasant things abou
everybody else and no one ever find
fault but we all have pleasant word,
even for our enemies, that is if any
body had time to have an enemy
Everybody likes everything he see
in the paper anid if there should bi
anything in the paper he doesn't likE
he fails to see it. Nobody stands 01
the street corner and therefore therE
are no howlers. We are afraid tha
we cannot claim any greatness i
we are to be measured by the stan
dard of the Elberton Star. Wonde
if there are any people in Newberr;
who fit the description and stan
dard of greatness set by the Elber
ton Star. Nobody has a hammer ii
Newberry so far as we know.
We are glad to note the election .
Practor A. Bonham as solicitor o
the 12th eircuit and congratulat
him on the v:ictory. We have onl:
an aequaintance with him but hi
father, Gen. M. L. Bonham, has bee
our life time friend and the youn
man comes of good stock and wil
make good.
The Index broke all previous re
cords in getting the election return
this time. The complete vote o
Greenwood county was received i
the Index office in one and one-hal
hours after the polls had closed. Fin
business, eh " To those who faithfu:
ly and loyally assisted us in bein
able to make this fine showing, ur
equalled in the State, the Inde
makes its best bow. No wonder th
crowds around the bulletin board
hurrahed for the Index.-Greenwoo
Index.
The Herald and News had the re
turns and an extra printed givin
the tabulated vote by seven o'cloe
sufficiently complete to give the re
suit as to the county. Several pre
einets were missing but we made n
special effort to get them and the
did not change the result. But nc
body applauded The Herald an
News though the erowds were aroun
the office in' full force. We hay
been so in the habit of doing thi
for the past twenty years that n1
one seemed to think it extraordinar
or more thain they expected. It wa
just what every body expected. I
we had not done so probably ther
would have been kicking and knoek~
ing, but as we did it nobody aj
plauded or thought it more than w
ought to do. No doubt they appre
ciated it as much .as if they ha
made a noise about it.
The good roads association need
to get busy now and see if we ear
not devise some plan to get a goo
macadam road built by every man
door and then every body will favo
the scheme, but if not many will or
pose the plan because maybe som
one will get a little more benefi
than some one else.
The automobile enthusiasts shoul
get in behind the city fathers an
see if we cannot get something don
to improve our streets. The countr
roads as bad as they are are searcel
as rough as our streets.
The elections are all over now a.n
we hope everybody can get down t
business and those who have bee

THE AMERICAN HUSBAND IS
THE BEST IN THE WORLD. ree
His Wife is the Happiest Woman the
On Earth. Lib
-- be
The American husband is the best reo
in the world says the Rev. Charles wa
Atked, D. D., in the November New ]
Idea Woman's Magazine. He thinks sel
more of his wife, makes more of his Ca
wife, gives more to his wife, than be
any other husband the world has vir
ever known. Whether he has the of
best wife in the world-but that is hei
another story. Certainly the Ameri- or
can woman has the most favored lot in<
which has yet fallen to a human be- IN
ing. She has more to make her hap
py--in her. own phrase, to give her
"a good time," than any other crea
ture on the face of the earth. She has
less drudgery and more leisure than (S
any o,ther wman. She has raore
money to spend and better things on
which to spend it. She has more free
dom, independence, more power of
initiative and of self-direction. She
is a person of importance-and she B'
knows it. The present writer is yet
seeking a female person between the
ages of seven and seventy upon this
continent who does not regard her
self as of the greatest consequence
in the scheme of things. She quietly tin
assumes that she is somebody. The foi
1 assumption is warranted in fact and
conceded in practice. The Americani an
F woman is, up to the present moment, bel
God's best piece of work, and there by
are no visible indications of outside
improvements upon the product. re
- The American girl can protect her- ta
self. She is not as easily led astray i
as the girl of many other countries. thr
She is not as "innocent," in the ab- 19
surd and conventional meaning of pe
that much-abused word. She knows sa
more. She can run alone. She is more f
compictely mistress of herself. There an
is a higher standard of sevual moral- va
ity in this country than in the old at
lands. This may be safely affirmed vi
tin the face of ten thousand divorce
scandals and all the headlines of a of
sensation-loving press. For every un- an
happy marriage of which the pap ers
speak, there are a thousand about.
which it says nothing.
fBut in the last analysis the Ameri-l
can woman has- a better time than f
fany other woman because she is-an

To Make a Bolster RolL
I made my own bolster roll from p1
a discarded cheese box arid a few
thin strips of wood. The cheese box, I
of which only the top and bottom
circles were used, was twelve inches at
in diameter, and the strips fifty- (
three inches long. The strips were ti<
nailed around the edges of the cir- o
eles so as to form a hollow cylinder
of slate, with an opening on one th
side large enough to tuck the pillows ne
away into while the Bolster was in
use. A piece of heavy wire clothes
line formed a circle about the cen
ter of the cylinder, to give strengtl th
and prevent sagging. First the ends f
of th,e bolster were padded, then the t
cylinder was covered, both inside and 1
out, with coarse white muslin, when
it was ready for the final decorative y
touches.-New Idea Woman's Maga- s
