Mrs. Rogers was about twenty-two years old. Besides her hus' band she leaves two children, one be ing about three weeks old. Their many friends in Newberry county wish for them that they may pass many more anniversaries of their ] marriage, and that in their journey through life together their jovs may continuously increase with the passhig of the days. I. Shealy, of Clinton, made a short visit to liis parents Saturday and Sunday. Mr. !. I). Poland, another of our Clinton boys, spent several days at home las) week. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Kinard, of Kin- \ ards, are spending some time with relatives. Mis.-* Mae Uradham, of Manning; Miss Cornelia Capers, of Washington, and Miss Willie Mae Wise, of Prosperity. visited Misses Flberta Sease and Mary Lathan last week. The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie W. Long, after an illness of a few days, died Saturday night. The interment took place yesterday afternoon in the family burying ground. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of the entire community. Mrs. Martha Shealy was buried yesterday afternoon at Pinev Woods church. She was the widow of Mr. Joshua Shealy. who died but a few months ago. Both had reached a ripe old age. Mr. C. l'\ Lathan is expected home today from the northern markets, where he has been buying the fall stock of goods for the firm of J. B. Lathan. Mrs. W. A. Counts and son Marion, and Mrs. .T. M. Sease, visited relatives in and around Prosperity last week. Mr. Frank L. Feagle has been on a visit to his parents. Mr. Clarence Monts and family, of Aiken, have been spending a while with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jno. W. Monts. The private telephone company of this place lias installed a small switchboard to accommodate the rural lines that have been recently run from here. Lines have been constructed info the Pincy Woods, to Peak and Spring 11 i 11, and in the section of country toward Pomaria and Hope Station. Including the telephones in town, the subscribers on these party lines have access to (>() or 7"> 'phones, besides long distance connection. The contract with the Southern B'dl has just been received, which gives the farm- i J ers connection out of Little Mountain for the regular toll rate. More lines promise organization this fall. The bridging system is used on the rural lines. The farmers own the complete lines and the tolls charged disinterested parties pay for exchange and keep lines in repair. Meetings at Mollohon, Newberry and West End Attended by Large Crowds. The county campaign closed at j West End on Saturday night. The J meeting was at the Mollohon mill on Friday night, and in the court house, in the city, on Saturday morning. There was a heavy rain on Friday iftcrnoon. which interfered considerably with the Mollohon meeting, but I here was a good crowd, notwithstanding the extremely disagreeable weat her. The edd court house, where the tneetimr was held on Saturday morn- I ing, was filled by an audience which ! included people from nearly every i section of the county. There was a large crowd at West End on Saturday night, the meeting heimr held in front of the West End axaded school building. The speeches of the countv eandidales at the three meetings above re- i ferred to were about the same as at, | tlw other meetings in tli campaign. Meeting of Rural Carriers. The carriers of Newberry county are requested to meet at the court house, on labor day, September 7, 1008. Business of much importance will come before the meeting and every carrier in the county is nut only requested but urged to attend the meet ing. li. C. Counts, President. \Y. (i. Peterson, Secretary. Has Achieved Snccess. The Herald and News is always glad to learn of the success of the young men who go out into the world from Newberry county. In a recent issue of the Spartan-' burg Journal it was stated: ''The V. M. C. A. congress had its third and last annual meeting for the summer Thursday night, and it was excellent in every respect. The youm* men represented the candidates for the legislature, and made some capital speeches. The improvement in the speaking of these young congressmen is so great that it furnishes a most impressive object lesson of the possibilities afforded by this congress." Among the most excellent speeches mentioned by the Journal is one by Mr. Y. J. Boozer. Mr. Boozer is a youmr man who went from this county to Spartanburg some five years ago. lie was reared in No. 0 township, hut went to Spartanburg from Kinards, where his father, Mr. D. L. Boozer, now lives. lie started in Sparlanburcr on a small salary, hut his energy and industry have brought him to the front, and lie is now half owner in the Rigby Manufacturing company, a lumber and general wood working concern, and is president of the company. Some time ago lie received a most tlattering offer to go to Virginia with one of the large concerns there in the same business, and he now has this offer under consideration. Mr. Boozer's many friends in this countv are proud of the merited success which he has achieved. First Class Barbecue. Messrs. M. (). Livingston and Henry ('.
