The Herald and News would like
to secure several copies of the paper
for 1007 in order to complete our file.
We have made it a rule to bind the
tile at the end of each vear in duplicate.
W e have one complete set but for
the second set we need all of tlje issues
for April, and for October 1, and
October II, and November 11. We
i#mbl very much appreciate it if our
fiiends could furnish these missing
copies. It will enable us to complete
"ur file iti duplicate and we will then
have a complete hound set of the paper
reaching back- to Ihi some
way l lie r;i I s ;_'o| in the drawer in
"Inch our liles were kept ;irid so mutilated

A-.U- '^ont's i* to have opposition.
This is ti. be regretted. IIr? is one of
the hardest working and most com-i
petent comptroller generals the State i
has ever had and should bo reelected.
I dispensary Auditor \V. li. West !
says he finds the sentiment of.' the ;
people growing in favor of county
! dispensaries and he doubts if a Statei
wide prohibition victory could foe
i won if left to the voters of the State.
I I lie candidates fur governor better i
| stand up ami lake notice. Mr. West
i is himself a prohibitionist. We do
: not known how it is in those counties
which have dispensaries, and those
arc Hi.- ones he visits, but we doubt
if any county that is now prohibition
would mnl<<- any change. Wo
doubt also if forcing prohibition on
those counties that are not ready for
il would help th<? cause of real prohibition.
We believe State wide prohibition
would be again-t die development
of genuine prohibition sentij
ment.
Tick Eradication Resumed.
I he Bureau of Animal Industry of

year to year: but encouragement is ||
given to local work iti any part of the j _
quarantined district in the assurance I I
that when any considerable area is I
rendered tick free it w??: be released
from <|uarantine.
The work is being done by cooperation
between the Federal Government j
and the State, end local authorities.
Congress has appropriated $250,000 j
for the year beginning July >, and n
is expected that the States and coun- !
ties where the work is carried on will i
duplicate this sum. The committee on ,
appropriations of the house of rep- j
resentatives expressed itself very i
strongly to the effect that the States
should bear a reasonable share of the 1
co<t and that the Federal work should j
be tnainlv confined to States where
cooperation is received.*
Various method*- for exterminating S
the ticks are used, including transfer- i Eg
ring the cattle from pasture to pas-jE
ture at suitable intervals, and dip-IK
ping, spraying, ami hand dressing the i if
cattle with oil and nil emulsion. I'1'!]
sections where there nre large herds L
and large ranches dipping on a large II
scale is practiced, either alone or in |j
connection with pasture rotation,
while in other sections, wjicre. the cattle
nn some farms frequently consist ! ']
only of a cow or an ox team, hand
dressing with oil is found to be l.lw
only practicable method. ' :>
The damage caused by the ticks
and the benelits to follow from their j
eradication are not generally appro- tj|
ciated. Il is estimated tiiat the Tex- fl
as-IV'Ver tick is responsible for about jl
10.0110.(101) oi |o>S Il.llly to the >|
