<gMws I?. II. AULL, EDITOR. Entered at the PostofTice at Newberry, S. C., as 2nd class matter. Tuesday, .111110 2, 1908. Mr. Zjick McGhcc, fhe Washingtoi correspondent of (lie Stale, in speak ing of the attitude of the, democrats senators on the currency hill sayj the.v "fell down on their jobs completely." It does seem that he hav it about right. What a line opportunity was offered Senator (iary t< make a reputation for himself. The South Carolina Cress Association is to indulge in an excursion to Asheville and oilier desert spots?but ('hat I a 1 mm>ira would be a good point to visit. News A: Courier. .Maybe thi-> piirl 1?I North ('aroliua will > 1??I be s<> 111 ml 1 of a 4' desert spot :is you iniv!"hI imagine. We were in ('liarlotle during the meeting of I lie North < a rid ma I'ress Association and it w;is not so mm-li of a '"desert spot ' or it did not seem >0 to ns. I >111 then \'oii know as you ha\e I><><' 11 there since l lien. In an excellent editorial the News and < ourier discusses Issues and Men in a most intelligent manner. Issues beyond little local matters should be the measure of lilness for those who nre chosen as members of the legislature. It loo often happens that the voters of a county will tal<e up some little local matter which does not amount lo much and is only temporary ami vote for or against candidates for the legislature regardless of other <|ualilications. There are questions to be considered which wH> need men of experience ami ability. Among these is the lax question. We only i ill ended at this I ime I o ?|ito|e with our indorsenieiir the following paragraph front the News and < 'ourier: ''As long as men are sent to I he legislature who cannot see beyond the turn of the road, whose vision is bounded by township or county Hues, w ho do not think except in a narrow circle of sellislt purposes, little good is (o be expeleed from I heir deliberations. There is one way and one way onl\ of lifting the Stale out of the slough into which it has fallen. Kvery eouulv in the Slate should send its best and wisest men to the legis lalure, not this man because he is "the poor man's friend" about election times, nor that man because he represents the factional interests o! his neighborhood, but the best and most intelligent men who could take a broad view of political ami industrial questions in the interest of the general public. Issues are only important w hen men are chosen who can meet them." EXCURSION RATES. Via Southern Railway for Special Occasions. I?aItirr.ore. Md.. and return, account general conference M.
